Student answer (Band 5.5)

Yes, I strongly agree with that statement. To live a decent live there are few basic necessities of life like food, water, shelter and clothes to cover yourself. In respect to that statement I think acces to clean and drinkable water is pretty much necessary. We need clean water not just for drinking but also for many other household tasks like cooking, washing clothes, dishes and also for cleaning your house. If you don't have access to clean water your life will become miserable. Like you will have a problem to find a water filteration plant just to get clean and drinkable water . I know all of this because a similar case happened to me . After completing my matriculation from Dar e Arqam school in my hometown my parents decided to sent me to Lahore for my Higher education. I agreed with them because in bigger city you have lot more opportunities than in Village. So, in short I went to Lahore and got my admission in Kips College . I decided to live in a Nearby Hostel . When I started my Intermediate journey I was new in Lahore and I wasn't aware of poor sanitory conditions there . It was my first night in the hostel. I was pretty excited cause you know a new chapter just started. New city, New people and everything felt so Good But it all changed the moment I got thirsty. I just went to drink water from my hostel water cooler. I poured myself a glass of water. The moment that water touched my tounge i was like yukhhhhhhh. I asked myself why the water tasted so wierd . I was in a complete shock because I was used to my village water. In villages you can get clean drinkable water in every home cause people have done water borings in every home. I went up in my room and told everything to my roommate. He told me that people in Lahore usually don't have water bores. He said people get drinkable water from water filtration plants which are installed at different locations and if you're lucky enough to have a water Filtration plant near you. You still have to go and fill your water cans from there. On top of that he told me that the water in lahore is not safe enough to take a bath. He said that it can pretty much damage your hairs. He told me that his own hairs started falling rapidly after just a few wash. But alas! we don't have any other options. I lived in Hostel for two years and trust me the water problem there was "a real pain in neck". No matter how busy you're you always has to borrow yourself sometime to go and fetch water from water filtration plants. Another problem was sometimes the filteration plants were closed. In that case you have to find another filteration plant which was not an easy task. It takes a lot of time and when yu are a student your time is really important. So, yeah I think clean water is a basic human right and it should be available to every human. Our Government should take some steps on this serious issue. So, everyone can get clean water to fulfill their needs.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

Your position is clear from the opening (“I strongly agree”) and remains consistent, and you give relevant reasons: clean water is needed for household tasks, while your hostel experience illustrates the difficulty of obtaining safe drinking water. However, the response only partly develops the central claim that every home should receive water free of charge. Most of the example explains access and water quality, rather than why the supply should be free or how this could be provided. The claim that government should take steps is also very general. To strengthen the response, explain the principle behind free provision and address a practical consideration, such as funding or ensuring basic household needs are met.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has an identifiable progression from your agreement and general reasons to a personal example and a concluding recommendation. The hostel story gives the essay a clear central illustration. However, the long narrative is presented as one continuous block, with few paragraph breaks to signal shifts in purpose. Several transitions are repetitive or conversational, including “So, in short,” “On top of that,” and “So, yeah,” and the sequence of events sometimes overwhelms the argument. Some references, such as “that statement” and “all of this,” are broad. Use separate paragraphs for the argument, example, and conclusion, and connect each part explicitly to the question of free household supply.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use enough vocabulary to communicate the main ideas and describe your experience, including phrases such as “basic human right,” “sanitary conditions,” and “water filtration plants.” However, the range is limited by repeated everyday wording such as “water,” “problem,” and “people,” while some informal expressions (“yukhhhhhhh,” “a real pain in neck”) are unsuitable for an academic essay. There are also noticeable spelling and word-choice errors, for example “filteration,” “tounge,” and “wierd,” which reduce precision. Aim for more formal, accurate phrasing and vary terms where appropriate—for instance, distinguish between a household water supply, safe drinking water, and water-treatment facilities.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and longer sentence forms, and the reader can generally follow the account. However, errors occur frequently in sentence construction, verb forms, agreement, articles, and punctuation. Examples include “To live a decent live there are few basic necessities,” “my parents decided to sent me,” and “you always has to borrow yourself sometime.” The sentence beginning “Like you will have a problem” is also an incomplete, informal construction, while several long sentences join multiple ideas without clear punctuation. Practise building accurate complex sentences and checking subject–verb agreement and verb patterns; for example, use “decided to send” and “you always have to set aside time.”
