Student answer (Band 5.5)
Every living specie on Earth needs water for basic survival. From humans to plants and animals all need water to live and survive. As plants need it for growth humans and animals need it for proper functioning of their basic metabolism. Therefore access to clean water is a fundamental human right and water should be supplied to everyone free of cost. I agree with this stance that all the basic neccessities either should be provided at low cost or they should be free of charge. Although majority will be in favour of free water supply but as human beigns are involved in wasting of natural resouces same can happen with free water provided resultiing in shortage. From scientific evidence it is found that Earth comprises of 75% water but drinking water is now reduced to only five to ten percent with majority of African areas deprived of it, even a single drop of clean water is not accessible to them. This shows the unfair behavior of humans as those who have in abdundance tend to waste it meanwhile those living in under preveiledged conditions dont even have it for their basic survival. This is a serious concerning issue and it needs to be solved at International level, appropriate measures should be made to provide every human being and adequate amount of water. Strong distribution channels should be installed connecting water resources to populated areas for supply. I believe water should be free of charge but strict rules should be implemented on those who either waste it or show an irresponsible behavior towards it.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
Your position is clear: you agree that clean water should be provided free, while recognising the risk that people may waste it. You address the issue with relevant points about unequal access and propose distribution channels and rules against waste. This covers the main task, and the reference to communities without reliable access helps support your argument. However, the discussion of water scarcity and the claim about the proportion of drinkable water are not explained or connected in enough detail to show precisely why universal free provision is the best solution. The opposing concern is also raised but not fully weighed against your position. Develop these points with a specific example and explain how free access could be combined with measures to prevent waste.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a recognisable sequence: it introduces the importance of water, states your view, discusses scarcity and unequal access, and ends with proposed measures. Linking expressions such as “Therefore,” “Although,” and “This shows” help signal relationships between ideas. However, the writing is presented as one continuous paragraph, so the stages of the argument are not clearly separated. Some links are also awkward or unclear, particularly the sentence beginning “Although majority will be in favour,” which moves quickly from support for free water to the risk of waste. Use separate paragraphs for your position, supporting reasons, and conclusion, and make the relationship between each point explicit. This would create clearer progression rather than relying mainly on sentence-level connectors.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “fundamental human right,” “natural resources,” “shortage,” and “distribution channels.” These choices show an attempt to discuss the issue beyond basic everyday language. However, spelling errors and inaccurate or unnatural word combinations are noticeable, for example “specie,” “neccessities,” “abdundance,” and “under preveiledged conditions.” Phrases such as “proper functioning of their basic metabolism” and “serious concerning issue” are also awkward or imprecise. These errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your main argument, but they limit the accuracy and flexibility of your vocabulary. Check spelling carefully and learn common collocations, such as “access to clean water” and “water distribution infrastructure.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mixture of simple and more complex sentence forms, including a concession with “Although” and a relative clause in “those who have…”. Your main position and most supporting points remain understandable. However, some grammatical errors affect clarity and control. For example, “From humans to plants and animals all need water” has an incomplete construction, while “same can happen with free water provided resultiing in shortage” lacks a clear grammatical connection between its ideas. There are also problems with articles, agreement, and sentence boundaries, as in “majority will be in favour” and the long sentence beginning “This shows the unfair behavior…”. Aim to build complex sentences with clear subjects and verbs, and review article use and punctuation.
