Student answer (Band 6.0)
Water plays significant part in lives of all living beings. It is irrefutable , without water there is no life on this planet. Having potable water is right of every individual so, water supply should be free of cost. This essay will commence by examining both sides of agreement and disagrement ragarding the issue before establishing my final stance in the upcoming paragraphs.
Advocates of this aproach argue that, It is undeniable, water is crucial for human survival therefore, its supply to households needs to be free. First of all, half of the worlds population struggles to get basic amenities, if water will be charged eventually they will be affected most. They already have pressure to afford basic survival things , they would be over burdened. Moving further, water is important for life and protecting human rights is the duty of the government, consequently, it should not be chaged.
On the flip side of the argument, there is growing consensus that water should be charged to prevent wastage of it. If it would be free, people consume more than their necessity. Therefore, in long run it will create scarcity of water. Furthermore, there is no free lunches in the world , if it is then , most probably its value would reduced to minimum.
My stance on above prompt is, i partially agree with the statement. Balanced approach needs to be follow in this issue. Giving complete free access would lead to its wastage and introducing costing will affect a large section of society negatively. Therefore, the onus is on the government to provide fixed

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You address the central issue and present a qualified position: “I partially agree,” with relevant points about affordability and preventing waste. The discussion of people who struggle to afford essentials is pertinent, and you recognise a counterargument about consumption. However, the position is not fully established: the final paragraph promises a “balanced approach” but ends at “provide fixed,” leaving your proposed policy incomplete. Several claims, such as “half of the world’s population” struggling to access basic amenities, are broad and unsupported, and the reasons are not developed with a specific example or explanation. To strengthen the response, state clearly what should be free (for example, a basic household allowance) and explain how charges could apply beyond it.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable overall structure: an introduction, arguments supporting free water, a counterargument, and a concluding position. Paragraphing helps the reader follow the shift in viewpoint, and signposts such as “First of all,” “Furthermore,” and “On the flip side” make the sequence visible. However, some linking is mechanical, and the introduction says the essay will examine both sides without clearly previewing your own position. The conclusion begins to synthesise the arguments but is cut off, so the progression does not reach a complete ending. Some connections between claims also need clearer explanation—for instance, how charging water would specifically create scarcity. Use fewer formulaic transitions and make each paragraph’s central point and its link to your position explicit.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of topic-related vocabulary, including “potable water,” “basic amenities,” “human rights,” and “scarcity.” These choices show an attempt to discuss the issue beyond very basic terms, and the meaning is generally understandable. However, spelling errors and imprecise or unnatural collocations reduce control: examples include “disagrement,” “aproach,” “chaged,” and “free of cost.” Phrases such as “there is no free lunches” and “its value would reduced to minimum” are also not expressed naturally. Aim for accurate, conventional collocations and check spelling carefully; this will make your argument sound more precise and formal. You can also avoid repeating “water” by using clear references such as “this essential resource” where appropriate.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including clauses with “if,” “therefore,” and “consequently,” so there is some variety. The main ideas are usually understandable, but errors in sentence construction, articles, agreement, and verb forms remain noticeable. For example, “Water plays significant part” needs an article, while “if water will be charged” uses an unsuitable verb form after “if.” In “its value would reduced,” the conditional verb is incomplete, and “Balanced approach needs to be follow” has an incorrect passive construction. Punctuation also creates awkward breaks, as in “It is irrefutable , without water…” Practise accurate conditional and passive patterns, and proofread sentence boundaries and articles.
