Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is often believed that clean water is a right of every citizen which should be given free of cost. Although it is a basic human right and should be provided freely, i totally disagree with the statement because of mentioned reasons.

Firstly, providing clean water free of cost increases the water waste. When goverment stops taking charge of water, people starts to use it unmanurely and waste it which can lead to water shortage in some areas. Furthermore, providing water freely to all the industries is a difficult task and not proving it can reflect the biasness. Also, habit of water reuse and recycle have reduced a water waste in large scale, which will be reduced if it is provided freely. For example, every households use limited amount of water to reduce the bill, which will increase if provided free.

Moreover, free water will increase financial burden to the government. The government spents large amount of budget in water supply, water pieplines and filtration, which can be recovered through the charge taken though water bill. Also, the government spending money in piepline repair and costumer service can reduce the quality of water provided if it is given free. For instance, all citizens of the United Kingdom have acess to clean water through different water supplying companies in a minumun price and government also gets benefited through tax.

In conclusion, although providing free water have various advantages, their drawbacks can not be ignored. I totally disagree with the statement and believe that minimum charge should take for clean water because it will decrease the water waste, financial burden to the goverment and people can understand the value of water.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your position is clear from the introduction to the conclusion: you disagree with free household water and support a minimum charge. You give relevant reasons, including possible waste and the cost of maintaining supply systems, and the UK example helps make the discussion concrete. This covers the task well, but the support is uneven. The claim that free water would lead people to use it carelessly needs clearer explanation, and the point about water reuse is not fully connected to the argument. The example about industries also introduces a fairness issue that is not developed. To strengthen the response, explain each main reason step by step and make sure examples directly demonstrate the point being made.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The essay has a clear overall structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs organised around separate reasons, and a conclusion that restates your view. Sequencing words such as “Firstly,” “Furthermore,” and “Moreover” help readers follow the progression. However, some links feel mechanical, and several ideas within the first body paragraph are joined without showing their precise relationship. For example, the discussion moves from household waste to industrial supply and then recycling. The reference to “all citizens” in the UK example could also be more clearly tied to the claim about government revenue and service quality. Group related points more carefully and use linking phrases that explain cause, contrast, or consequence rather than relying mainly on listing signals.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use vocabulary relevant to the topic, including “water shortage,” “financial burden,” “filtration,” and “water supply,” so the main ideas are generally understandable. There are also attempts at less common expressions, but inaccurate word choice, collocation, and spelling are noticeable and sometimes make the meaning less clear. Examples include “use it unmanurely,” “water pieplines,” “biasness,” and “minimum price.” Some phrases are also imprecise, such as “providing water freely to all the industries.” Aim to learn topic vocabulary in natural combinations and check spelling and word forms carefully. More precise choices would help you express the argument without requiring the reader to infer what you mean.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mixture of simple and complex sentences, including a concession in the opening and clauses beginning with “which” and “because.” This gives the essay some structural variety, and the overall meaning is usually recoverable. However, there are some errors in agreement, verb forms, articles, and sentence construction. For example, “people starts” should use a plural verb, while “water reuse and recycle have reduced” has an unclear subject and form. In “minimum charge should take,” the sentence needs a passive construction, such as “a minimum charge should be imposed.” Review subject–verb agreement and practise checking each sentence for a complete, correctly formed clause. Greater accuracy in these patterns would make your complex sentences more controlled.
