Student answer (Band 5.5)

It is widely argued that every citizen should benefit from water supply without paying fees.I completely agree with this statement because providing clean water is a basic human right and it is the governement's responsibility to fullfill indicidual's needs.

One major reason why citizens should be provided with free water is the availability of wide sources. That is to say, water is considered as a natural source, that comes from rain falls, lakes, seas, and then has been filtered with large machines which contribute in distributing the liquide to several areas. As a result, it is essential to be free due to its availability. Moreover, authorities are not largely in charge of this process as it does not require a significant amount of time and energy to be done.

Another important reason is that water supply is considered as something fundamental in human's life. This is because a significant number of individuals can not survive without water, they need it in almost every aspect of life, such as, in medecines, cooking food and cleanining. In addition to that, the most important thing is that firefighters use it in order to extinguish fires that may cause damage to people's lives. In short, paying costs for water can not be a duty for citizens, because many of them are already struggling with other bills such us electricity, internet, and other important expences.

In conclusion, water is a basic right that every individual should have.i strongly agree with this statement because it is something crucial for human's development.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

Your position is clear from the introduction (“I completely agree”) and conclusion, and you give relevant reasons: water is essential for survival and is used in cooking, medicine and firefighting. However, the response only partially develops the argument. The claim that water should be free because it is naturally available does not explain the costs of treatment, infrastructure and delivery; the assertion that authorities do not need to invest much time or energy is also unsupported. The point about people struggling with bills is relevant but would be stronger with a specific example or explanation of how free household water would help. Develop and support each reason more fully, while addressing practical considerations such as how the supply would be funded.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction, two body paragraphs presenting reasons, and a conclusion. Paragraphs are focused, and signposts such as “One major reason,” “Another important reason,” and “In conclusion” help readers follow the argument. However, some connections are mechanical or unclear. For example, “As a result, it is essential to be free due to its availability” does not establish a convincing link between natural sources and free delivery, while “Moreover” introduces a claim that is not clearly connected to the previous point. The long second body paragraph also moves from personal needs to firefighting and household bills without enough explanation of how these points relate. Use clearer links between claims and evidence, and develop a more logical progression within paragraphs.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “basic human right,” “water supply,” “filtered,” and “extinguish fires.” There are also attempts at more formal phrasing, such as “fundamental” and “individuals.” However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, sometimes making the meaning less natural: “wide sources,” “natural source,” “the liquide,” and “paying costs for water.” Spelling errors such as “governement,” “medecines,” “cleanining,” and “expences” are noticeable. Aim for precise, natural combinations such as “abundant natural sources,” “treated water,” and “water charges,” and proofread spelling and word forms. This would make the argument clearer and more appropriate in tone.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentences, including a reason clause (“This is because…”) and a relative clause (“that may cause damage…”). The main ideas are generally understandable, but control is uneven, particularly in longer sentences. For example, “a significant number of individuals can not survive without water, they need it…” joins two independent clauses with only a comma. The sentence beginning “water is considered as something fundamental” also has an awkward structure, and the opening paragraph contains errors in possessive and infinitive patterns (“the governement's responsibility to fullfill…”). Capitalisation and punctuation are inconsistent, especially the lowercase “i” in the conclusion and missing spaces after full stops. Practise accurate clause joining, articles and sentence boundaries, then check punctuation and capitalisation during revision.
