Student answer (Band 5.5)

In recent years, the shortage of water is a serious issue, though it is a fundamental human right. However, all the individuals should be allowed to get water freely on a higher level. In my opinion, I partly agree to the statement because allowing people to use water freely can cause severe consequences.

On the one hand, water is a beneficial resource of the modern world, as it can perform all the necessities. Firstly, water is used domestically such as in households for washing pots and cloths. It can also be used in washrooms for flushing or bathing. Individuals can clean themselves by washing their bodies with water. Secondly, it can also be consumed in factories for making electricity to run power appliances at homes such as irons, fridges and ovens. People drink it because it is vital for building health and that also keeps us alive.

On the other hand, governments should provide all the houses with water supply to mitigate the chances of its scarcity. People need governments to build them such water resources but they should also introduce strict laws to control its wastage. If people gets much amounts of water then they might misuse and flow it in canals or streets. Additionally, governments can follow the policies from international world because they have best ways to save it. Scientists should also play a role in saving water such as to produce high accuracy meters that can be accessed online and can fine people regarding wasting water.

In conclusion, water is essential to human health and also for other species beacuse it is a primary necessity. However, the governments should keep an eye on people using excessive water.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You give a position—“I partly agree”—and discuss both the importance of water and the need to control its use. The points about household needs, drinking water and preventing waste are relevant to the question. However, the response does not fully explain the central issue of whether the household supply should be free of charge. Much of the first body paragraph lists uses of water, while the second focuses on government provision and monitoring rather than explaining who should pay or how free access could be balanced with conservation. The claim that free use could cause severe consequences is not clearly developed. To strengthen the response, state your position more precisely and support it with reasons and examples directly addressing free provision and its practical effects.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction, two contrasting body paragraphs and a conclusion. “On the one hand,” “On the other hand” and “In conclusion” help signal the stages of the argument, and the ideas are generally understandable. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes list-like: the first body paragraph moves through washing, bathing, electricity and drinking without showing how these examples support your view about free water. Some links are also unclear, such as “they” in “they have best ways to save it,” where the reference is not precise. Build each paragraph around one main claim, then explain how its examples support your position; use linking phrases to show relationships between ideas rather than simply introducing another point.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a range of topic-related vocabulary, including “scarcity,” “strict laws,” “wastage” and “excessive water,” which helps communicate the subject. There are also attempts at more formal phrasing. However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “water is a beneficial resource,” “perform all the necessities,” “consumed in factories” and “higher level.” These choices sometimes make the intended meaning less clear. Spelling errors such as “beacuse” also reduce accuracy. Aim for precise, natural combinations and avoid using formal-sounding phrases unless their meaning is clear. For example, describe water as essential for meeting basic needs, and explain that factories use it in production or to generate electricity.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentences, including clauses introduced by “because,” “though” and “if.” Most of the argument remains understandable, but errors in agreement, articles, plurals and sentence construction are noticeable. For example, “If people gets much amounts” has subject–verb and noun-form problems, while “all the individuals should be allowed to get water freely” is awkwardly structured. “People need governments to build them such water resources” also has an unclear grammatical relationship between the people, governments and resources. Practise checking subject–verb agreement and noun phrases, and make sure each sentence expresses one clear relationship. More accurate control of these patterns would make your complex sentences easier to follow.
