Student answer (Band 6.5)
It is undeniable that clean water is essential for human survival and overall public health. While i agree that access to safe drinking is a fundamental human right, I disagree with the notion that government should provide a completely free water supply to every household.
The commence with, the primary argument against entirely free water is the risk of extreme wastage. When a vital resource carries no finacial cost, consumers tend to carries no finacial cost, consumers tend to undervalue it. without the discipline of a monthly utility bill, people are far more likely to leave taps running, neglect leaking pipes, and use treated drinking water excessively for non- essential activities like washing cars or waterning lawns. In an era where global water scarcity is a growing crisis, charging a reasonable fee encourages conservation and forces households to use water resposibly.
Moreover, maintaining a safe and reliable water infrastructure requires immense financial investment. A balance approch such as charging a low tier rate for basic usage and higher rates for excessive consumption-ensures that infrastructure remains properly funded while keeping water affordable.
In conclusion, although access to clean water must be guaranted for all individuals, amking it entirely free for every household is impractical. charging for water prevents unnecessary waste and provides the necessary revenue to maintain safe.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
Your position is clear from the introduction: you support access to safe water as a right but oppose making all household use entirely free. You give relevant reasons—waste and the cost of maintaining infrastructure—and the suggestion of low rates for basic use with higher charges for excessive consumption is a useful qualification. However, the ideas are not developed evenly: the waste argument has examples, while the funding point is asserted without a concrete illustration or explanation of how charges protect access for poorer households. The response also falls 34 words short of the required minimum, limiting the space available to develop and support your case. More explanation and a specific example would make the response more complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The response has a clear overall progression: it introduces your disagreement, presents two supporting reasons, and ends with a conclusion that restates your position. Paragraphing helps distinguish the main points, and linking expressions such as “Moreover” and “In conclusion” make the sequence easy to follow. The concession in the opening also signals a balanced approach. To make the organisation more effective, develop each body paragraph with a fuller explanation or example before moving on. Some transitions are formulaic, and the conclusion is very brief, so it does not fully draw together the argument. Ensure each paragraph has a complete, clearly connected line of reasoning.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.5
You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “water scarcity,” “infrastructure,” “conservation,” and “excessive consumption,” which helps communicate the central argument. There are also attempts at more formal phrasing, such as “a fundamental human right” and “a reasonable fee.” However, spelling and word-choice errors reduce precision: “finacial,” “resposibly,” and “approch” are misspelled, while “safe drinking” is incomplete where “safe drinking water” is intended. The repeated phrase about consumers having no financial cost also weakens control and variety. Proofread carefully and choose collocations that sound natural; this will help you use your relevant vocabulary more flexibly and accurately.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You attempt a mix of sentence forms, including a complex opening concession (“While I agree …, I disagree …”) and a conditional structure (“When a vital resource carries no …”). These show some range, and the main argument remains understandable. However, some grammatical and punctuation errors are present. For example, “consumers tend to carries” has incorrect verb form, and “without the discipline” begins a sentence without a capital letter. The final sentence is incomplete in meaning, ending with “maintain safe” without a noun such as “supplies” or “water.” Capitalisation of “I” is also inconsistent. Review verb patterns, sentence boundaries, and punctuation, then check that every sentence is complete.
