Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is often argued that every house should have free supply of clean water. While this view has some merit, I completely agree with it because It is basic human need for survival and is also useful in household chores like washing and cooking. Overall, I agree with the statement that it should be supplied to every single house on the earth without any cost.

The primary reason for my agreement is that clean water serves as a surviving tool for human life. Without it, hundreds of thousands of people would die due to dehydration and other diseases. So, every house should atleast have one source of that can provide clean and drinkable water regularly and free of cost. Many countries in Africa experience a shortage of water. As a result large number of people including children die because of thrist or drinking dirty water from ponds.

Additionally, we use water nearly in each and every chore of our house. Whether it is washing, cooking or bathing, water is used. If, every house does not get clean water then they would not be able to cook which will affect their productivity as they are not fed properly. And they would not be able to wash thehir clothes, which will affect the people around them as no one wants to sit near a person who stinks. So they should get free clean water in their houses. For instance, there is one student in our class who donot have access to clean water back home. He hardly washes his clothes as a result no one in the class sit with him on their own will.

In conclusion, I agree with the opinion of free supply of clean water to every home as it is our primary need for survival and to perform basic chores in our homes.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your position is clear from the introduction to the conclusion: you agree that clean water should be supplied to every home free of charge. You give two relevant reasons—water is essential for survival and is needed for household activities—and support them with examples, including water shortages in parts of Africa and a student who lacks clean water. This addresses the task well. However, the survival argument is more fully explained than the household-use argument, which focuses partly on washing and social discomfort rather than explaining why the supply should be free. The personal example is relevant but could be linked more explicitly to the wider principle of access as a right. Developing these points and acknowledging how free provision could be funded would make the argument more complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction states your view, two body paragraphs present reasons, and a conclusion restates your position. The progression from survival to household use is easy to follow, and signposts such as “The primary reason” and “Additionally” help guide the reader. Some connections are less smooth or precise, however. For example, “So” begins a sentence that repeats the preceding point, while the chain from not having water to reduced productivity and then to social effects could be organised more clearly. The example about your classmate is understandable, but its connection to the broader argument would benefit from an explicit linking sentence. More varied, precise transitions and clearer links between claims and examples would strengthen the flow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use enough vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including topic-relevant terms such as “dehydration,” “shortage,” “productivity,” and “access to clean water.” However, the range is limited and several noticeable word-choice, collocation, and spelling errors reduce precision. Phrases such as “a surviving tool,” “source of that can provide,” and “free supply” are unnatural or unclear; “means of survival,” “a source that provides,” and “free provision” would be more idiomatic. There are also spelling errors such as “thrist” and “thehir,” and informal or imprecise wording such as “stinks.” Aim to use accurate collocations and a more formal register, and proofread spelling carefully. This would make your meaning more fluent and exact.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex structures, including conditional sentences (“If every house does not get clean water…”) and clauses introduced by “whether” and “as a result.” Most of the argument remains understandable, but some grammatical errors occur in both sentence construction and punctuation. For example, “one source of that can provide” has an incomplete or incorrectly formed relative clause, and “there is one student … who donot have” has a subject–verb agreement error. The long sentence beginning “And they would not be able to wash…” also needs clearer control of clause boundaries and punctuation. Review articles, agreement, and sentence boundaries, and check capitalization after full stops. Greater accuracy across these structures would help your varied sentences read more smoothly.
