Student answer (Band 6.5)

Nowadays, many people believe that access to clean water is an essential human right and it should be supplied to everybody free of cost. However, I disagree with this belief because it can lead to wastage of water and put an extra financial burden on governments.

One of the reasons I disagree with free water suuply is that it encourages unnecessary usage of water. When water is provided without any charges to the public, they donnot show any concern about its conservation. They take it for granted because they donot have to pay for it. For example, when people have access to free water, they might leave their taps running and use extra water for washing and cleaning purposes that can result in wasting of water. Thus, this can lead to depletion of water resources in the long run.

Another reason of disagreement with above mentioned view is that it can put an excessive financial burden on the goverments. When goverments have to supply water to a large population, they might end up with deficient funds, that can affect the maintainence of infrastructure for water supply syste. For instance, municipal authorities need funds to repair leaking pipes, improve the excisting facilities and implement new projects. So, when they are struggling with funds, they might not be able to maintain the system of water supply.

To conclude, although provision of clean water to the people is a fundamental human right, I disagree with free water provision to the public because it causes excessive use of water and substantial burden on goverment funds. Local authorities should charge bills from consumers according to their consumption that can be used later to maintain infrastructure.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your position is clear from the introduction to the conclusion: you disagree with free household water because it may encourage waste and strain public finances. Both reasons are relevant, and the examples about running taps and repairing leaking pipes help explain them. This meets the task well, but the two arguments are not equally developed: the water-wastage point is illustrated, while the financial argument would benefit from explaining more specifically how charging users would help fund reliable access. The conclusion also proposes bills based on consumption, but does not address how essential water could remain affordable for low-income households. Developing that qualification and extending the implications of each reason would make the response more complete and persuasive.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction states your view, two body paragraphs present separate reasons, and a conclusion restates your position. Sequencing phrases such as “One of the reasons,” “Another reason,” and “To conclude” make the progression easy to follow. The examples are placed in the relevant paragraphs, supporting the organisation. However, some linking is mechanical, and connections between claims could be made more precise. For example, “Thus, this can lead to depletion” follows the example, but the link between household waste and long-term resource depletion could be explained more explicitly. The phrase “above mentioned view” is also an unclear reference. Use a wider range of natural transitions and clearer references to strengthen cohesion.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “conservation,” “depletion of water resources,” “financial burden,” and “infrastructure.” These choices help communicate the main arguments, and the meaning remains clear despite some inaccurate or awkward expressions. For example, “free water suuply,” “charges to the public,” and “charge bills from consumers” are not natural collocations; “water supply,” “provided free of charge,” and “charge consumers” would be more idiomatic. There are also spelling errors such as “goverments,” “maintainence,” and “excisting,” which reduce accuracy. Aim to use topic-specific vocabulary precisely and proofread spelling, while avoiding repeated reliance on general phrases such as “water supply” and “funds.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including subordinate clauses beginning “because,” “when,” and “although.” Most ideas are understandable, and the longer sentences generally communicate the intended relationships. Some grammatical errors remain, however. In “they donnot show any concern about its conservation. They take it for granted,” the missing space after the full stop affects punctuation, and “they donnot” should be “they do not.” In “they might end up with deficient funds, that can affect,” the comma incorrectly separates the clause; use “funds, which can affect” or restructure the sentence. The final sentence also has an unclear grammatical connection in “charge bills … according to their consumption that can be used later.” Review clause boundaries, punctuation, and sentence construction to improve control.
