Student answer (Band 6.5)
In today's society, some people believe that clean water should be provided for free. In my opinion, every home deserves to receive or have an access to a clean water supply. However, I disagree with the idea that water supply should be completely free for everyone because maintaining a safe and reliable water system requires a significant amount of money.
One of the main reason is that providing clean water involves many expenses. Government and water companies need funds to treat water, repair pipe damages and maintin facilities. If water were provided free of charge to every household it could be a lost of costs. As a result, the quality of the water supply might decrease, affecting the health and safety of the public.
Secondly, charging reasonable fees can encourage people to use water responsible. When water is provided for free, some people may waste it by leaving taps open or using excessive amounts of water everyday for unecessary activities. By paying for the water they consume, people may become more responsible and consious og their usage.
Nevertheless, I believe that poor families should be provided financial assistance to ensure they have access to clean water. The government could provide free basic water allowance or a discounts for households that cannot afford their water bills. In that way, everyone can enjoy their rights to have an access to a clean water supply without placing an excessive burden on the government.
In conclusion, I disagree that water supply should be provided free of charge. Although clean water must be accessible to everyone, reasonable charges should be applied.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
Your position is clear from the introduction to the conclusion: you support access to clean water but oppose making all household use free. You address the main parts of the question and give relevant reasons, including the cost of treatment and repairs, the possibility of waste, and assistance for poorer families. The examples of government support and a basic allowance make the final point practical. However, some ideas are less fully developed than others. For instance, the claim that free provision could reduce water quality would benefit from explaining how funding shortfalls might affect treatment or maintenance. The point about charging encouraging responsible use is also asserted rather than supported with a specific example. Further explanation would make the argument more convincing.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a coherent overall arrangement: an introduction states your view, separate paragraphs present reasons and a qualification, and the conclusion restates your position. Sequencing phrases such as “One of the main reason,” “Secondly,” and “Nevertheless” help readers follow the argument. The progression from general costs to responsible use and then support for low-income households is logical. At times, however, connections are somewhat mechanical, and some references could be clearer. For example, “In that way” refers broadly to the proposed assistance, but the link between this measure and avoiding an excessive government burden could be explained more explicitly. Develop smoother transitions between claims and their consequences, and use a wider range of linking and referencing rather than relying mainly on signposting phrases.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the topic, including relevant terms such as “treat water,” “repair,” “financial assistance,” and “water bills.” Phrases like “safe and reliable water system” and “excessive burden” show attempts to express ideas precisely. Some word-choice, collocation, and spelling errors remain, though they do not prevent understanding. Examples include “a lost of costs,” “use water responsible,” and “consious og their usage”; these weaken the naturalness and accuracy of the expression. There is also repetition of “free” and “clean water supply.” Aim to check spelling carefully and learn common word partnerships, while varying repeated topic phrases where possible. More consistently accurate vocabulary would make the argument sound more fluent and controlled.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including a conditional structure in “If water were provided free of charge … it could…” and a subordinate clause beginning “Although clean water must be accessible to everyone.” Most sentences communicate their meaning clearly, and punctuation generally supports the paragraph structure. Some grammatical errors remain. For example, “One of the main reason” has a singular/plural agreement problem, and “every home deserves to receive or have an access” has an article and construction issue. The sentence beginning “If water were provided…” also needs clearer punctuation around its introductory clause. Practise checking agreement, articles, and sentence boundaries, and revise awkward grammatical patterns so that your range of structures is more consistently accurate.
