Student answer (Band 6.5)
Nowadays, availablity of clean water free of cost to humans has become a widely debated issue. While some people argue that every household should have access to clean water free of cost, I strongly believe that small amount of charges should be applied on water like other basic necessities such as gas and electricity. This essay will discuss the reasons for my view point.
The primary reason for my opinion is responsible use of water by citizens. If water supplies to every home free of cost, citizens will take this facility foregranted and waste the surplus amount of water. For instance, there are several households who keep running their watertaps because they don't have to pay for it. Therefore, governemnt should give access to clean water at some reasonable and afforable charges.
Another compelling reason is that it will increase the economy of the country and reduce the taxes. For example, if government got a small amount of money from every house, it would help the government to collect enough money to pay their loans and lessen the burden of taxes on public. In other words, it will make the life of citizens and government more convenient. Additionally, imposing water bills on everyone brings sense of equality and justice among public. Furthermore, it will end the unfair taxes on poor citizens.
In conclusion, although there are some people who think that water is a basic human right and it should be free, I firmly believe that governemnet should give easy access to water at an affordable price to preserve the natural siources and reduce taxes on citizens and for the prosperity of the country.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
Your position is clear from the introduction: you support charging households a modest amount, and the conclusion restates this view. You give relevant reasons—preventing waste and raising public revenue—and include examples such as households leaving taps running. This fully addresses the question, while the explanation of how charges would reduce taxes and create “equality and justice” adds further support. To make the argument more fully developed, clarify how a water charge would be affordable for poorer households and distinguish a basic supply from excessive use. Some claims, particularly that bills would “end the unfair taxes on poor citizens,” are asserted rather than explained, so the support is not consistently as developed as the position itself.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction states your view, two body paragraphs present separate reasons, and a conclusion summarises your position. The progression from responsible use to government revenue is easy to follow, and linking phrases such as “For instance,” “Another compelling reason,” and “In conclusion” help guide the reader. This organisation is effective, though some connections are mechanical and ideas within the second body paragraph are crowded together. For example, the claims about loans, taxes, convenience, equality, and fairness would be clearer if each relationship were explained and sequenced more carefully. Use referencing and transitions to show precisely how each point supports your central argument.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of topic-related vocabulary, including “responsible use,” “surplus amount,” “burden of taxes,” and “preserve the natural resources.” These choices help communicate your argument, and the meaning is generally clear. However, some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or awkward, such as “take this facility foregranted,” “view point,” and “easy access to water at an affordable price.” Spelling errors, including “availablity,” “governemnt,” and “siources,” also reduce accuracy. Aim for more natural phrasing and check spelling carefully; for example, explain that people may “take free water for granted” or “waste water when it is not metered.” This would make the vocabulary more precise and fluent.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including conditional structures such as “If water supplies… free of cost, citizens will…” and “if government got… it would help…”. These allow you to explain consequences, and the main ideas remain understandable. Some grammatical errors persist, however. In “If water supplies to every home free of cost,” the conditional clause needs a verb, such as “If water is supplied…”. There are also issues with articles and agreement in “small amount of charges” and “government got,” as well as the pronoun mismatch in “the government… pay their loans.” Review sentence completeness, article use, and subject–verb agreement, while continuing to practise varied conditional and complex structures.
