Student answer (Band 5.5)

Water has been a major part of human lives from decades. Access to clean water is a basic human right while, some people believe that there should be free water supply for every home. I completely agree with this view because it's a part of our daily life consumption and should be clean to help us remain healthy and fit. Additionally, the state should introduce laws to minimise the unnecessary water consumption

On the on hand, the government should take measures to provide clean water supply that is free of cost. The state should encourage citizens to keep the water clean by avoiding throw waste and plastic bottles in the rivers and oceans. For Example, the authority can improve the waste management system and access to all around the city to ensure the reduction of waste production by individuals. In this way, there would be no waste in canals and rivers and water would be clean.

On the other hand, the authorities should provide people with proper education about the consumption of water carefully and should provide them with free clean water by installing filters in big cities. For instance, the government can invest in water supply networks to allow citizens rely on free and fresh water all around the country. Consequently, it can lead to overall better well-being and economical growth.

In conclusion, I completely agree with this opinion that access to clean water is a basic human right and they should be provided with clean water that is free of cost because it will contribute to people's health.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

Your position is clear: you completely agree that clean water should be available to every home free of charge, and you give relevant reasons involving health, water conservation, and government investment. The examples about waste management and water-supply networks help illustrate your points. However, the discussion does not fully explain how free provision would be funded or how charging for excessive use could support conservation, so some ideas remain under-developed. The response also contains 242 words, below the required 250; the 18 words copied from the prompt are not included in that count. Develop the reasoning behind each main point and add a specific supporting detail to meet the task more fully.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, two body paragraphs and a conclusion. Linking phrases such as “On the other hand,” “For instance,” and “Consequently” show an effort to connect ideas and guide the reader. However, the two body paragraphs do not establish a clear contrast: both support government action and free water, so “On the other hand” is misleading. The progression within paragraphs is also sometimes unclear, particularly where waste reduction is linked to clean water without explaining the connection. Some transitions feel mechanical, and the conclusion largely repeats the introduction. Organise the body around distinct reasons and use linking expressions that accurately show how each idea relates to the previous one.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a relevant range of topic vocabulary, including “waste management system,” “water supply networks,” “consumption,” and “well-being.” These choices make the subject clear, and the reader can generally understand your argument. However, several word combinations are unnatural or imprecise, such as “from decades,” “daily life consumption,” “avoiding throw waste,” and “economical growth.” There is also repetition of “free,” “clean water,” and “provide,” which limits flexibility. Aim for more accurate collocations and vary repeated terms—for example, refer to “household water use” or “a reliable supply of safe drinking water.” Proofreading word forms and spelling, including “Example,” will also make your vocabulary more controlled.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including clauses introduced by “because,” “while,” and “that,” and most of the main ideas remain understandable. However, errors occur across the response and sometimes make relationships between ideas harder to follow. For example, “while, some people believe” has incorrect punctuation and clause structure, and “the authority can improve … and access to all around the city” lacks a clear grammatical construction. In the conclusion, “they should be provided” has an unclear pronoun reference. Review sentence boundaries, clause joining, and subject–verb or pronoun reference. Building accurate complex sentences before adding further complexity would improve control.
