Student answer (Band 7.0)

Although water is a precious natural resource, access to clean drinking water is the right of every individual. Therefore, the supply of pure water should be provided to every household without any extra charge. I completely agree with this statement, and the reasons supporting my rationale will be discussed in the upcoming paragraphs.

One of the major reasons to get the free access of water to everyone is the survival of human being. Water is a basic necessity which is used for several purposes like drinking, cooking, washing, and so on. If there is a price for water, then a considerable amount of income will be spent on purchasing bottles and huge cans of water, which will create financial challenges, especially for common people who cannot afford it. For example, in cities like Delhi, where clean water is not available in certain regions, people have to buy it and suffer a great deal of problems. Hence, basic requirements like water should be free.

Secondly, it is a common human right and a government responsibility. To be precise, the state should ensure every citizen of the nation can access safe drinking water for the development of a healthy country. The state can even inspect the consumable water that is shared with everyone. Consequently, water should be provided to everyone free of cost.

In conclusion, water is a fundamental right of every citizen, and they should not be deprived of it because of the cost; instead, the regime should maintain its quality standards so that everyone in society can thrive easily and can access water without paying any extra fee.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your position is clear from the introduction: you completely agree that households should receive water without charge, and the conclusion reinforces this view. You give relevant reasons concerning survival, affordability, public health and government responsibility, with Delhi as a supporting example. This covers the task well, but the ideas are not equally developed. The affordability point is explained with a plausible consequence, while the claim that free water is a human right and a government responsibility is mostly asserted; explain why public provision is necessary and how it could be funded or managed. The Delhi example could also be more specific about the effects on residents. More balanced development and support would make the argument more convincing.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction states your position, two body paragraphs present separate reasons, and a conclusion restates the argument. The progression from basic survival to government responsibility is easy to follow, and signposts such as “One of the major reasons,” “Secondly,” and “In conclusion” help guide the reader. Cohesion is generally effective, though some linking is formulaic, particularly the repeated use of “Hence” and “Consequently” to introduce conclusions. The second body paragraph would benefit from a clearer connection between government inspection of water quality and the argument for free household supply. Use more varied transitions and make the relationship between each supporting point explicit to strengthen the flow.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.5

You use an adequate range of topic-related vocabulary, including “precious natural resource,” “financial challenges,” “fundamental right,” and “quality standards.” These choices communicate the argument clearly, and some less common expressions show an attempt to write in an appropriately formal style. However, several phrases are imprecise or unnatural, such as “free access of water,” “the survival of human being,” and “suffer a great deal of problems.” “Pure water” is also less precise than “safe drinking water” in this context. These word-choice and collocation issues do not prevent understanding, but they limit precision and naturalness. Aim for established collocations and avoid formal-sounding expressions such as “upcoming paragraphs” when a simpler phrase would be more idiomatic.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 7.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including conditional structures such as “If there is a price for water, then…” and a relative clause in “people who cannot afford it.” Many sentences are controlled, and punctuation generally supports clear reading. Some grammatical errors remain, however. For example, “the survival of human being” needs a plural or article adjustment, and “ensure every citizen … can access” would be more accurate as “ensure that every citizen … can access.” In “the right of every individual,” the possessive form “a right” is more appropriate. These issues are noticeable but rarely obscure your meaning. Continue checking articles, plural forms and clause patterns, while varying sentence structures beyond repeated statements and simple cause-and-effect constructions.
