Student answer (Band 5.5)

Clean water is a basic human need. It is beneficial for every home to have a clean water supply system which should be provided at no cost. I largely agree with this statement because it can help to maintain a healthy lifestyle and reduce the risk of diseases.

Firstly, everyone needs clean water. Although the water system in homes is acidic, they can use filteres to clean water. It is because people threw their garbage in the river while water become more acidic because of the presence of chemicals. For example, people get water from the river for drinking purposes. As a result, they may suffer from diseases because of acidic water. Moreover, the government should provide pure water supply system free of charge. Consequently, they may maintain a healthy lifestyle.

Secondly, many people suffer from dangerous diseases because of impure water. They are poor and they cannot afford filtered water. They drink dirty water from rivers. After that, they suffered from cancer diseases. In addition, they cannot afford private hospitals. For instance, a person who take water from a muddy river. Therefore, they lose their physical health and get sick. If the government contributes by spending public money on clean water system. As a result, the risk of diseases may reduce.

In conclusion, clean water supply system can overcome the basic needs of poor people. They can maintain their health and prevent from harmful diseases if the government contributes in society. The government should provide this basic facility without cost. I largely agree because it proves a very helpful facility for society to maintain a healthy lifestyle and to fulfil their basic needs.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is clear from the introduction to the conclusion: you largely agree that clean water should be provided without charge. You give relevant reasons, especially the links between unsafe water, illness, and the difficulty poorer people face in paying for treatment. However, some points are not fully explained or are unclear. For example, the claim that people who drink dirty river water “suffered from cancer diseases” needs reliable support or a more carefully explained health consequence. The point about acidic water and household filters is also difficult to follow and does not directly establish why the supply itself should be free. Develop each reason with a clear explanation and a specific, credible example to make the argument more convincing.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs presenting reasons, and a conclusion that restates your position. Sequencing phrases such as “Firstly,” “Secondly,” and “In conclusion” help readers follow the main stages. However, connections within paragraphs are sometimes mechanical or unclear. In the first body paragraph, the movement from acidic water to filters, river pollution, and government provision is not fully explained. The example beginning “For instance, a person who take water…” is also left as a fragment rather than being connected to a complete point. Use linking expressions to show cause and effect precisely, and make sure each example is followed by an explanation of how it supports your argument.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main argument, including “clean water supply,” “impure water,” “public money,” and “risk of diseases.” There are also attempts to use more specific language, such as “acidic” and “filtered water.” However, some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or repetitive, which makes parts of the argument less clear. Phrases such as “cancer diseases,” “overcome the basic needs,” and “prevent from harmful diseases” do not express the intended meanings naturally. Spelling errors such as “filteres” also reduce accuracy. Build a more precise range of vocabulary for water quality, illness, and public services, and check common word partnerships and spelling when editing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple sentences and more complex forms, including a conditional sentence beginning “If the government contributes…” and a subordinate clause with “because.” This gives the response some structural variety, and the main message is generally understandable. However, several sentence-level errors remain. For example, “people threw their garbage … while water become” shifts tense and has an agreement problem; “a person who take” also needs subject–verb agreement. The sentence “If the government contributes by spending public money on clean water system” is incomplete because it has no main clause. Practise checking verb forms, agreement, articles, and whether each sentence expresses a complete thought. These corrections would make your reasoning easier to follow.
