Student answer (Band 6.0)

Availabilty of clean water is a fundamental human requirement. Every household must get water connection with minimal cost if not completely free because if fresh and clean water is being provided people would not mind paying for the same.

It is important for the health of people to drink water free from contaminations. It will save huge amount of money as less poeple will get sick. In the past there have been several instances where people suffered from various diseases that were caused by drinking unclean water. A recent news from delhi showed how people developed skin related issues by consuming untreated contaminated water. Many such incidents have taken place in history where drinking contaminated water has claimed many lives.

It is indeed the duty of the government authorities to look after the basic requirements of public and providing clean water should be a priority. Tap conncetions can be installed by making a proper implementation plan and the cost can be levied upon the beneficiaries through nominal monthly bills. This way both the people as well as the authorities will be benefited. For instance, many state governments have taken initiatives to set up water treatment plants and providing clean water to the citizens. Tap water connectivity has increased rapidly recently and people have benefitted from it.

Overall, human being need clean water for healthy survival and it is a basic amenity that should be provided to them for marginal charges. The authorities have a duty towards common people to fulfill essential requirements like clean water.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is clear: you argue that clean water should be accessible to every household, but that a nominal charge is preferable to making it entirely free. You support this with relevant points about public health, government responsibility and water-treatment initiatives. However, the response does not fully resolve the tension between the prompt’s proposal of free supply and your preference for paid connections: the opening says “minimal cost if not completely free,” while the conclusion supports “marginal charges.” Explain more directly why charging is fair or necessary, and distinguish the right to clean water from the cost of supplying it. The health example is relevant, but the Delhi report is briefly mentioned rather than explained, and the government initiatives are not supported with specific detail.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a coherent overall structure: it introduces your view, develops health and government-related arguments, and ends with a summary. Paragraphs generally have clear purposes, and transitions such as “It is indeed” and “For instance” help signal the development of ideas. At times, however, the progression is somewhat mechanical, with repeated references to clean water and public benefit rather than clear links between each claim and its consequence. The relationship between “minimal cost” in the opening and “marginal charges” in the conclusion could also be made more explicit. Improve cohesion by using precise referencing and by connecting examples directly to the point they illustrate, rather than adding them as separate statements.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “contaminated water,” “water treatment plants,” “beneficiaries” and “essential requirements.” These choices make the subject clear, and some less common terms are attempted. There are also spelling errors, including “Availabilty,” “poeple” and “conncetions,” and several phrases are not natural collocations: “human being need clean water for healthy survival” and “skin related issues” could be expressed more precisely. “Fresh and clean water” is also repetitive. Aim for accurate, natural combinations and check spelling carefully; this would make your vocabulary more precise without requiring unnecessarily complex words.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including a conditional construction in “if fresh and clean water is being provided…” and a relative clause in “diseases that were caused by drinking unclean water.” Meaning is generally clear, but some grammatical errors remain. For example, “It will save huge amount of money” needs an article, and “less poeple will get sick” has an agreement issue with the countable noun. The sentence beginning “For instance” also shifts into an incomplete parallel structure: “have taken initiatives to set up … and providing…” should use matching verb forms. Review articles, subject–verb agreement and parallel constructions, and punctuate introductory phrases consistently.
