Student answer (Band 6.0)

Nowadays, the water levels are declining and the proportion of fresh water is depleted. But what is the most effective method for dealing with this arising issue which is of much importance. Some people believe that clean water is a basic necessity and must be provided free of cost and I really agree with this argument. Therefore, I will be supporting my opinion thoughout this essay with examples.

On the one hand, as we all know that as a human being water is very essential part of our life and we must consume clean water in order to remain healthy. For example if we do not drink clean water it leads to multiple diseases like kidney stones and typhoid etc. If clean water is not made accessible to every human it may lead to serious diseases in many people who can't afford to buy clean water.

Another reason, why I agree with this statement is that as the water is essential to all of the human beings equally and we require clean water for most of the work at home. For instance, household work plenty of water is required and water being a natural resource I firmly believe should be given and made accessible to everybody free of cost.

On the other hand, if clean water is available free of cost people may take it as granted and began to waste this clean water or use it purposelessly. As a result the water scarcity may happen.

In conclusion, although it is a common belief that accessing clean water should be available to every human being. I believe that in order to live a healthy life and to do most of the house chores we need clean water. Personally, I think that every home should be given access to clean water free of charge and they must be taught to how to use water efficiently.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is clear: you agree that homes should have access to clean water without charge, and you give relevant reasons concerning health and household needs. The examples of diseases and the risk to people who cannot afford clean water help explain the health argument. However, the household-use point is asserted rather than developed: explain why charging for essential domestic use would be unfair or give a specific example. You also acknowledge the opposing concern that free water could be wasted, but the response does not fully resolve this tension. Your final suggestion that people should be taught to use water efficiently is useful; connect it more explicitly to your position, for example by distinguishing a basic free supply from unlimited use.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, supporting paragraphs, a counterargument and a conclusion. The progression from health to household use and then possible waste is generally easy to follow, and signposts such as “On the one hand,” “Another reason” and “On the other hand” make the organisation visible. At times, however, these links feel mechanical, and some sentences do not connect ideas smoothly. For example, “But what is the most effective method for dealing with this arising issue” introduces a question about water scarcity that is not directly answered. The conclusion also repeats the position without clearly showing how the waste concern is addressed. Keep each paragraph focused and use linking phrases to express the actual relationship between ideas.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough vocabulary to discuss the topic, including relevant terms such as “water scarcity,” “accessible,” “natural resource” and “diseases.” The meaning is generally clear, but several word choices and collocations are unnatural or imprecise, which limits the range and control shown. For instance, “the proportion of fresh water is depleted” is not a natural way to describe declining supplies, and “use it purposelessly” is awkward. There are also spelling and form errors, including “thoughout” and “began” where the intended meaning is that people might start wasting water. Aim for precise topic vocabulary and check common word partnerships. The suggestions below offer more natural alternatives while preserving your intended meaning.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including conditional structures such as “If clean water is not made accessible … it may lead to serious diseases” and a concession in the conclusion. The main ideas remain understandable, but some grammatical errors recur. Examples include the missing article in “water is very essential part,” the incorrect construction “as we all know that as a human being,” and the agreement and verb-form problems in “people may … began to waste.” The sentence beginning “In conclusion, although…” is also incomplete because the dependent clause is not joined to a main clause. Review articles, clause structure, subject–verb agreement and verb forms, then proofread punctuation so that complex sentences remain complete and controlled.
