Student answer (Band 6.0)

Water is something that every human need to survive in this world. Although I agree that clean water is a person's basic human right, but I am not sure whether it should be provided free of charge or not.

Water is the single most important element in human body. Every human body is made of 75% of water. Day by day it is getting harder to get clean water. I live in Dhaka, Bangladesh, where getting clean water is like getting some sort of jewel. Every home and shops have to have a water purifier in order to get some drinkable water. Even there are some water booth built in different areas where you have to punch a card to get water. So I think government should take necessary steps to ensure clean water to every household.

However countries like Bangladesh has a huge population. Which makes it difficult for the government to ensure safe water for everyone without any charge. Another thing is people has a tendency of not giving value to free things. If they get water free of charge then there will a be a case where people will waste more and more water without any reason.

But countries that has huge natural water resources and less population should provide safe water to it's residents without any fee. Besides that they can impose regulations and laws in order to reduce the waste of water. They can run campaigns to enlight the people about the negative side of wasting water.

Clean water is not just a human right, it is non negotiable. But providing it free of charge is very difficult in most of the cases. So government should make it cheap if possible.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both the human-rights principle and whether water should be free, and your position is ultimately clear: governments should ensure access, but free provision may not be practical everywhere. The Dhaka example, including purifiers and water booths, makes the issue relevant and gives your argument a personal basis. You also explain concerns about population, cost and waste. However, the discussion is uneven: the claim that people waste free water is asserted rather than supported, and the distinction between countries with abundant resources and those without is not explored in enough detail. Develop these points with a specific explanation of how governments could guarantee a basic supply while charging for excessive use.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall arrangement: it introduces your qualified position, presents the need for clean water, considers practical objections, and ends with a recommendation. Paragraphs generally have distinct purposes, and transitions such as “However” and “Besides that” help signal shifts. This coherent progression is a strength. To make the organisation more flexible and precise, connect some ideas more explicitly: the paragraph about countries with abundant water resources follows the concern about cost, but the relationship between those points could be explained. Some linking is also mechanical, and “Which makes it difficult…” is an incomplete sentence that interrupts the flow. Use complete sentences and clearer references to show how each example supports your central argument.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “basic human right,” “water purifier,” “natural water resources,” and “regulations and laws.” These expressions make the subject clear, and the Dhaka example gives your language some specificity. There are also attempts at less common phrasing, such as “non-negotiable,” though some choices are inaccurate or unnatural: “getting some sort of jewel” is an awkward comparison, and “enlight the people” is not the appropriate verb form. Spelling and word-form slips such as “it's” for the possessive “its” also reduce accuracy. Aim for more precise collocations, for example “access to safe drinking water” and “raise public awareness,” while avoiding repeated general terms such as “water” where a clear alternative is available.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including the contrast introduced by “Although” and the conditional idea about free water. Meaning is generally understandable, but some errors in agreement, sentence boundaries and clause construction remain. For example, “every human need” should be “every human needs,” while “countries like Bangladesh has” and “people has” require plural agreement. “Although I agree…, but…” combines two contrasting structures unnecessarily, and “Which makes it difficult…” is a fragment. There are also errors in “there will a be a case” and “Every home and shops have.” Check subject–verb agreement and make sure dependent clauses are attached to complete sentences. More accurate control of these patterns would strengthen the range you already attempt.
