Student answer (Band 6.0)

Having a clean water supply at everyone's house is a tragedy these days. Clean Water is a basic human need the stay fit and healthy. Since pure water is a basic human right so i agree with the fact that every home should have a clean water supply without any charges.

Firstly, there is scarcity of water in villages and the areas where there isn't any river around. People travel all the way to the city from there village due to necessity of water which they need for there day to chores. This consumes a lot of time which they would have used to do their other tasks. For instance, my relative lives in a village where there wasn't any water. Few months ago the government took the initiative to provide water supply but were charging a huge tax fees. As we are already paying high taxes, people over there started demanding free water supply and later on after protests they finally got water supply free of charge.

Secondly, the government shouldn't charge for water supply as it a basic human need. Poor people will suffer if they charge fees for water supply. Water is used in various ways for drinking, washing and bathing and these are all day to day chores of people. For example, if the poor people can't afford water supply it can affect their health and day to day chores.

To encapsulate, water is a basic human need for staying fit and healthy. Water is necessary for day to day chores so the government should take the initiative and provide a free water supply to each and every house.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is clear from the introduction: you agree that households should receive clean water without charge, and the conclusion reinforces this view. You give relevant reasons, including the time spent collecting water and the effect of charges on poorer people, and the village example helps make the first point concrete. However, the argument does not fully examine the claim that water is a human right or explain how free provision could be managed. The second reason is also less developed: you state that poor people may suffer, but could explain more specifically how unaffordable water affects health or daily life. Develop each main idea with a fuller explanation and a relevant example.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs signposted by “Firstly” and “Secondly,” and a concluding paragraph. The ideas generally progress logically, and the village example is placed alongside the point it supports. This meets the lower-band expectation of coherent organisation and shows some of the clearer progression associated with a stronger performance. However, links between claims could be more explicit, and repeated references to “day to day chores” and water’s importance make the progression feel somewhat repetitive. The example about protests also takes up space without clearly connecting the tax issue to the broader argument. Use more precise referencing and explain how each example supports the paragraph’s central claim.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use enough topic vocabulary to communicate your position, including “scarcity of water,” “water supply,” “basic human right,” and “free of charge.” However, the range is limited and several choices or combinations are noticeably inaccurate, which can make the reader pause. For example, “a tragedy” does not express the intended idea that access is a problem, while “huge tax fees” and “day to day chores” are imprecise or awkward in context. Repetition of “water,” “basic human need,” and “free” also limits flexibility. Aim to use more precise collocations and vary key terms, such as referring to “household water provision” or “affordable access,” while checking that each phrase conveys your intended meaning.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You use a mix of simple sentences and some longer structures, including the relative clause in “areas where there isn't any river around” and the conditional sentence beginning “if the poor people can't afford water supply.” Meaning is generally understandable, but some grammatical errors remain. Examples include “the stay fit and healthy,” “as it a basic human need,” and “from there village,” which show problems with clause structure, missing verbs, and possessive forms. There are also inconsistent capitalisation and punctuation choices, such as “Clean Water” and “i.” To improve, check each sentence for a complete subject and verb, use articles and possessives carefully, and proofread sentence boundaries and capital letters.
