Student answer (Band 5.5)
Water is a basic need of human. Therefore every home must have a water supply that should be free of cost. This essay disscssed my opinion on this argument.
In my opnion, For a human water is an essential source of survival. Without water human cannot stay alive. Differen regions contain dirty water and low-income households may struggle to pay water bills. For a healthy life clean water intake is required. Clean water reduces waterborne diseases such as cholera and diarrhoea. For example, In Pakistan, some poor families struggle to obtain safe drinking water, particularly in areas with limited water infrastructure.
water is not available in unlimited way beacuse water treatment, purification and distribution require significant investment.Freshwater is scarce in many regions, so it must be used responsibly. Governments should provide a free basic quantity and charge for excessive consumption. For instance, Households could receive enough free water for drinking, cooking and personal hygiene, while higher usage would incur a reasonable fee.
Clean water should be accessible to every household, regardless of income.
Governments should guarantee a free basic water supply. Charging for excessive use can help prevent wastage and cover maintenance costs.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
Your position is identifiable: you support a free basic supply while accepting charges for excessive use. Relevant reasons include health, affordability, water scarcity and the cost of treatment and distribution, and the Pakistan example helps make the issue concrete. However, the response only partially develops the argument. The opening says the essay will discuss your opinion but does not clearly state your qualified position, and the health and affordability points receive little explanation beyond brief claims. The conclusion repeats your recommendation rather than drawing the reasons together. The response is 58 words below the required minimum, which limits the space available to explain and support your ideas. Develop each main reason with further explanation or a specific example, and state your position clearly from the introduction.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The ideas are grouped into a recognisable sequence: an introduction, a paragraph about the benefits of clean water, a paragraph about scarcity and costs, and a brief conclusion. Linking expressions such as “For example,” “For instance,” and “Therefore” help show relationships between claims and examples. However, progression is somewhat abrupt: the first body paragraph moves quickly from survival to affordability and disease, while the second shifts to scarcity and pricing without a clear transition. The final two sentences largely repeat the same recommendation. Paragraphing and linking are present, but the short development makes the overall argument feel compressed. Use topic sentences to establish each paragraph’s main point, connect the points explicitly, and avoid repeating the conclusion.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “waterborne diseases,” “water infrastructure,” “purification,” “distribution,” and “excessive consumption.” These terms allow you to discuss both public health and the practical costs of supplying water. The range is adequate for communicating the main ideas, but some wording is repetitive or imprecise, such as “free of cost,” “essential source of survival,” and “water is not available in unlimited way.” There are also noticeable spelling errors, including “discssed,” “opnion,” “Differen,” and “beacuse,” which reduce accuracy. Aim for more natural collocations and check spelling carefully; for example, use “provided free of charge” and “water is a finite resource.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
Your response includes mostly straightforward sentence patterns and some attempts to combine ideas, such as “Freshwater is scarce in many regions, so it must be used responsibly.” This sentence is clear and shows control of a compound structure. However, grammatical accuracy is uneven. Examples include “Water is a basic need of human,” which needs a plural or article adjustment, and “Without water human cannot stay alive,” which needs an article or plural subject. Capitalisation and punctuation are also inconsistent, as in “In my opnion, For a human…” and the missing space after “investment.” The range of sentence structures remains limited, and these errors make parts of the response less smooth. Practise accurate articles, plural forms and sentence boundaries, then vary sentence structures while keeping them controlled.
