Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
Your position is clear: you agree that clean water should be free, and you give relevant reasons, especially its importance for health and the financial pressure on poorer households. The examples of people in Sudan, Somalia, Tanzania and Ethiopia also relate to access to safe water. However, the response addresses the proposal only partially because it does not explain how a free household supply could be funded or managed, and several points are repeated rather than developed. For example, the health risks of dirty water are mentioned in both the second and final paragraphs, but the consequences and supporting explanation remain general. Develop fewer reasons in more detail, and explain why government provision is practical as well as desirable.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
The response has a basic paragraph structure: it introduces your view, gives reasons and examples, and ends by restating your position. This helps the reader identify your main argument. However, progression between ideas is often unclear, and links are repetitive or inaccurate. The second paragraph moves from health effects to country examples, then to payment and government action without clearly showing how each point connects. Repeated statements such as “Clean water should be free for everyone” and “Clean water is a basic human right” make the conclusion feel like a restatement rather than a developed ending. Use clearer topic sentences and connect each example directly to the reason it supports.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
You use relevant topic vocabulary, including “basic human right,” “health issues,” “financial burden” and “water supply,” so the central message is generally understandable. However, the range is basic and repetitive, and frequent spelling and word-choice errors sometimes make the reader work to understand your meaning. Examples include “difficulties,” “cleanwater,” “diease” and “froo of cost”; phrases such as “people are not available clean water” are also not natural English. Build a more accurate set of expressions for access, affordability and public health, and check spelling carefully. More precise vocabulary would help you explain the argument without repeatedly relying on “free,” “problems” and “people.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
You communicate your main position using mostly short, simple statements, and there are attempts to form longer conditional or explanatory sentences. However, the range of structures is limited, and errors are frequent enough to make some sentences difficult to follow. For example, “Without of water anyperson cannot live” has an incorrect construction, while “If person not available clean water they drink…” lacks a clear subject and accurate verb forms. Agreement and articles are also inconsistent, as in “the people are drink” and “if they water is available.” Practise building accurate subject–verb–object sentences first, then add clauses with “because,” “if” and “although,” checking verb forms and punctuation.
