Student answer (Band 5.5)

Nowadays, availabilty of clean water in homes is a right of every human being, and every home should be provided with clean water free of cost. I disagree with this statement and below I will give my reasons with relevant examples to make it easy to understand.

I agree that clean water is a basic human right, but a free access to all homes will make it very easy for people to waste it. As clean water is a basic necessity for all homes to do different chores like washing dishes, cooking, cleaning themselves and many other, but it does not mean that they will use it free of cost and will take care of it as it is the one of those things whose percentage abundance is plunged drastically.

When we provide people with clean water but not free of cost, they will use it mindfully and will always try to save it, they will not even waste a single drop of water, beacuse they know that it is costing them. They will only take a glass of water for cooking that is enogh, rather than filling a whole pot of water and and then wasting it afterwards.

Now, lets suppose the clean and fresh water is free of cost for all the homes and the government do not take any charge for it. People will take it as a joke, they will not think about their country and it's effect on the environment, rather then they will waste it without even noticing. For example: if they are taking a shower they will take 30 minutes in showering rather than just 5 or 10 minutes beacause they know it is free of cost. If the ladies are cooking they will gather pots of water around them, but in real they only need 1 or 2 glass of water.

In conclusion, clean water is a basic necessity, but not free of cost, To save the environment and ecosystem we need to preserve good amount of water, doing so will save many lives in the future and will prove beneficial for the society.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is clear from the introduction: you disagree that household water should be free, while recognising that clean water is a human right. You give relevant reasons, especially the risk of waste, and illustrate this with examples about long showers and using more water than cooking requires. However, the response does not fully resolve the tension between a right to clean water and charging for it: explain how people unable to pay would still receive an essential supply, or distinguish basic use from excessive consumption. Some claims, such as people treating free water “as a joke,” are asserted rather than developed. Clarifying this distinction and extending the reasoning would make the argument more complete and persuasive.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable structure, moving from your position to supporting reasons and then a conclusion. Paragraphs generally focus on one main point, and examples help readers follow the argument. Some connections are mechanical or unclear, however. The opening phrase “below I will give my reasons” announces the structure rather than advancing the argument, while “Now, lets suppose” creates an abrupt shift into the example. The second paragraph also begins with “As” but does not form a complete sentence, which interrupts the flow. Use clearer links between the right to water, the proposed charge, and conservation, and make sure each paragraph develops its point in a logical sequence.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough vocabulary to communicate the main argument, including relevant terms such as “basic necessity,” “environment,” “ecosystem,” and “preserve.” There are also attempts at more specific phrasing, such as “use it mindfully.” However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or awkward, including “percentage abundance is plunged drastically,” “a free access,” and “in real they only need.” Spelling errors such as “availabilty,” “beacuse,” and “enogh” also reduce accuracy. Aim for natural, precise expressions rather than elaborate wording: for example, say that water supplies are “declining sharply” and that people may “use water more carefully.” This would improve clarity and control.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt a mixture of simple and complex sentences, including conditional forms such as “if they are taking a shower” and clauses introduced by “because.” The main ideas are usually understandable, but some sentence structures are faulty. “As clean water is a basic necessity … but it does not mean” is an incomplete construction, and “the government do not take any charge” has problems with agreement and sentence pattern. There are also errors in articles and number, as in “a free access” and “1 or 2 glass,” as well as punctuation issues, including the comma splice in the opening paragraph. Practise building complete sentences and checking agreement, articles, plurals, and punctuation while retaining your attempts at complex structures.
