Student answer (Band 5.0)

Access to clean water is a basic human right. Therefore every home should have a water supply that is provided free of charge However I disagree with this idea of free water. Although clean water in the esstional for life. And making it free can cause problem for goverment fundings, water conservation and service quality.

Firstly Supplying water to house cost some funding. goverment pays for esstional water treatment piplines, electricity, workers, water plants. if houshold pays nothing the goverment will use taxpayers miney for these things. this can cause heavy burdrn on them.

then acess to the clean water can encorge people to waste this valuableo. it much seems thta its curel to charge people for clean water but people do not appreciate that and start wasting water without reason. When poeple are charge for something they are more likly to use it carefully.for example They keep water tab open, let water flow and waste it and excessive water gardening. They throw water, keep water still un attendence which other issues.

if people know that they will be charged they will take responsibility for that and stop wasting water and start accountibilty for that. Thats why people should be chrage for water.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

Your position is clear: you disagree with free household water, and you give relevant reasons about public funding and waste. The example of leaving taps running helps illustrate the conservation point. However, the response addresses the task only partially because both reasons are briefly stated rather than explained or supported in depth; the effect on service quality is mentioned in the introduction but not developed. The conclusion repeats the view without adding a fuller justification. The response is 178 words, so it is 72 words below the required minimum; the 23 words copied from the prompt are not counted. Develop each reason with explanation and a specific example, and address the implications for households that cannot afford charges.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

There is some organisation: the response begins with a position, moves to funding, then water waste, and ends with a concluding view. Basic signposting such as “Firstly” and “for example” helps readers follow the main points. However, progression is weakened by the lack of clear paragraphing and by abrupt or repetitive links, including “then” and the repeated idea that people should be charged to encourage responsibility. Some sentences run together, while others are fragments, making relationships between ideas unclear. Use separate paragraphs for the introduction, each main reason, and the conclusion; connect each example directly to the point it supports and avoid restating the same claim.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant topic vocabulary, including “water treatment,” “taxpayers,” “conservation,” and “service quality,” which shows an attempt to discuss the issue beyond basic personal opinion. However, the range is limited and several inaccurate or misspelled choices make parts difficult to understand, such as “esstional,” “burdrn,” “valuableo,” and “accountibilty.” Phrases such as “heavy burden on them” and “waste this valuable” also need more natural wording. Build a reliable set of topic expressions and check spelling and collocation carefully. For example, describe the cost of infrastructure and treatment, and explain that charges may encourage responsible consumption rather than saying people will “start accountibilty.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response attempts a few complex structures, including “Although clean water is essential for life” and “if people know that they will be charged,” but these attempts are often incomplete or inaccurately formed. The opening contains a run-on sentence after “free of charge,” and “Although clean water…” is left as a fragment. Other examples include “Supplying water to house cost” and “if houshold pays nothing,” where sentence structure, verb agreement, and articles are not controlled. Punctuation and capitalisation are also inconsistent, making some sentences hard to follow. Practise building complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, then check agreement and sentence boundaries. Use a few accurate complex sentences rather than attempting many unfinished ones.
