Student answer (Band 5.5)

As we all say somewhere sometime that all human beings are equal in status and have equal rights. According to this statement everybody have their basic rights which means that clear water is a basic human need and also their right.

First of all, I would say that the clear water is a basic human need and is also be available for everyone out there. Now the main thing is that should every home have a water supply which costs them nothing and eventually all of them get the clear water for free. My answer will always be a yes because I think that this is our very basic right to survive on this planet earth. The clear water should be available for everyone.

Furthermore, the debate is all about whether the clear water should be given for free or would it be charged. On this I would say it must be free of cost for everyone because this is the government responsibility to provide every basic right of its public. As every country's people pay taxes from their income it is a certain responsibility of the governments that they would do such projects which help their public to get clear water free of cost. I am completely on the side that every home should have a clear water supply that is provided free of charge.

In conclusion, I would say that the clear water is basic need and also a right of every human so there is no other choice for the managements and governments other than providing clear water supply to every home for free without charging money from them.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

Your position is clear: you agree that every home should receive clean water without charge, and you return to this view in the conclusion. You also give a relevant reason, arguing that governments have a responsibility to provide basic services and can use tax revenue to fund them. However, the response addresses the issue only partially because the central claim is repeated more often than it is explained. For example, you state that free water is a “basic right to survive,” but do not develop the practical or ethical reasoning behind this claim, nor provide a specific example. To strengthen the response, explain how free provision could be funded and address a possible concern, such as the cost of maintaining water systems.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, supporting paragraphs and a conclusion, and signposts such as “First of all,” “Furthermore” and “In conclusion” help identify the stages of your argument. However, progression is limited because several sentences repeat the same point that clean water should be free, rather than adding distinct supporting ideas. The transition into “Now the main thing” is conversational and does not clearly advance the argument, while “On this” refers vaguely to the debate just mentioned. Organise the body around separate reasons—for example, human rights and public-health benefits—and use clearer references to connect each explanation to the claim. This would make the overall line of reasoning easier to follow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate your main view, including “basic human right,” “taxes,” “government responsibility” and “water supply.” However, the range is limited, and repeated phrases such as “clear water,” “free of cost” and “every home” make the argument sound repetitive. Some combinations are also unnatural: “clear water” is less suitable than “clean water” in this context, and “the managements and governments” is an imprecise way to refer to public authorities. Aim for more precise topic vocabulary and vary repeated expressions, while checking natural collocations. For instance, you could refer to “safe drinking water,” “public funding” and “water infrastructure” to explain your position more specifically.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt some longer sentences and use clauses to explain your reasoning, but the range of structures is limited and errors occur frequently enough to affect fluency. For example, “everybody have their basic rights” has a subject–verb agreement error, and “is also be available” combines incompatible verb forms. Articles and sentence construction are also problematic in “the clear water is a basic need” and “this is our very basic right to survive.” Some sentences are understandable, but these recurring errors make the argument less controlled. Practise accurate subject–verb agreement, verb patterns and article use, then build longer sentences from simpler, correct clauses. Proofreading each sentence for its main verb would help.
