Student answer (Band 6.0)

Provison of water is the basic human need and should have a easy access to clean water. Access to clean water is must but there are mixed believes whether clean water is provided free of cost or not.

In my opinion, every home should be provided with clean water as it prevents the spread of water-borne diseases. There are alot of diseases that spread via dirty water which are really harmful and sometimes kills the individual. In Pakistan, every year there are alot of cases of water-borne diseases. One of the disease is typhoid. Alot of people get attacked by typhoid bacteria during floods and is diagnosed at a very later stage that leads to worsening of patient's condition. So, the need for clean water is profound for human health and for the prevention of these kind of diseases.

Secondly, the provison of clean water in low-income countries is really helpful for the people living there. As they are already paying for there other bills, including electricity, gas, internet and many more. Provison of clean water for free will lessen the economic pressure on them and lowers down the over water-borne disease burden on them. Countries like Africa should have the policies for the provison of clean water. These countries are already having people who are suffering from malnutrition and are low-income. So, how are they going to cover the charges of clean water? This makes African people to use water just to satisfy their thirst rather than paying and having a clean water.

Eventhough, the water should be provided free of cost, there should be some regulations to prevent wastage of clean water. For example, the fine should be charged if the water is used more than the particular amount or there should be specific timings in which the water is only provided.

In conclusion, clean water should be provided to everyone for free as it prevents overall water-borne disease burden and lowers down the economic pressure. However, there should be some regulations to prevent the overuse and wastage of water.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your position is clear: you agree that homes should receive clean water free of charge, and you address both health and affordability. The Pakistan example of typhoid gives relevant support to the health argument, while the discussion of low-income households explains the financial benefit. The proposal to regulate use also adds a qualification to your view. These points meet the task well, and the response shows some development beyond simply stating an opinion. However, the affordability argument is less fully explained, and the reference to “Countries like Africa” is too broad and unclear; a specific country or more precise explanation would make it more convincing. To strengthen the response further, explain how free provision could be funded and develop the regulation point with a practical example.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, two supporting paragraphs, a qualification, and a conclusion. The progression from health benefits to affordability and then to preventing waste is easy to follow. Linking phrases such as “Secondly,” “For example,” and “In conclusion” help signal the stages of the argument. At times, however, cohesion is somewhat mechanical, and some references are unclear. For instance, “These countries” follows a broad reference to “Countries like Africa,” making the intended place imprecise, while “this” in “This makes African people” does not clearly identify the cause. Use more precise referencing and connect examples directly to the claim they support. Varying transitions and making links between sentences more explicit would improve the flow.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of topic-related vocabulary, including “water-borne diseases,” “economic pressure,” “malnutrition,” and “regulations.” These choices help communicate the main arguments, and the meaning is generally clear. There are also attempts at more formal phrasing, such as “the prevention of these kind of diseases,” although some expressions are inaccurate or unnatural. Examples include “mixed believes,” “get attacked by typhoid bacteria,” and “lowers down the … burden.” Spelling and word-form slips such as “Provison,” “alot,” and “Eventhough” also reduce accuracy. Aim for natural collocations and check spelling carefully; for example, describe people as “contracting typhoid” and say that a policy “reduces the burden” of disease.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentences, including clauses introduced by “as,” “which,” and “if.” Most of the argument remains understandable, but some grammatical errors recur. For example, “should have a easy access” has an article and sentence-pattern problem, while “every year there are alot of cases” and “there are some regulations” show inconsistent control of agreement and sentence construction. In “One of the disease is typhoid,” the singular form is not maintained correctly, and “people get attacked … and is diagnosed” has an unclear subject and faulty agreement. Work on articles, singular and plural forms, and keeping the subject clear across joined clauses. Proofreading sentence by sentence would help you retain your ideas while improving accuracy.
