Student answer (Band 6.5)

Its a basic human right to have an accessible potable water hence, every house should have a charge free supply of water readily available to them. I am in favour of this ideology as clean water is the most significant need of human beings for a healthier life.

Having drinkable water is crucial for a healthy body, our bodies are majorly composed of water with essential particles dissolved in it. There are people which do not have access to a safe consumable water and it has been observed that their cells shrink in size three times faster than the normal process. Moreover, a lot of diseases can occur due to polluted water including dysentery and cholera. A typical example is the spread of water borne diseses that are recently reported in the latest article of WHO, focusing mainly on the areas that do not have a supply of fresh water.

However, there are certain individuals that think about putting a charge on the supply. Although the government will get benefit from it, the common man will suffer and only the elites would be able to get potable water. This ideology seems to be more of a business model than a facility as it can deprive a large community from their basic right. I would argue that a feasable access to clear water supply should be mandatory in every state because a healthy community is a backbone of a country and the government can generate a revenue from other business models that are not as essential as this one.

In conclusion, having access to potable water should be free of charge as it is a basic human right irrespective of the financial status. Not only this prevents spread of disease but also provides a healthy living opportunity to everyone and I am totally in favour of this idea.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your position is clear from the introduction to the conclusion: you support free household water because it is essential to health and should not depend on income. You address the opposing view by acknowledging that charging could benefit the government, then explain that poorer people would be disadvantaged. These points meet the task well. The health argument is relevant, but the claim that cells shrink “three times faster” is not explained or supported, and the reference to a WHO article is too general to make the example convincing. The point about alternative government revenue is also asserted rather than developed. To strengthen the response further, explain how free provision could be funded and support key claims with clearer reasoning or a specific example.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The essay has a clear overall progression: it states your view, gives a health-based reason, considers the opposing position, and concludes consistently. Paragraphing is appropriate, and transitions such as “Moreover,” “However,” and “In conclusion” help readers follow the argument. The contrast paragraph also connects the financial consequences of charging with your claim about equal access. Some links are less smooth within paragraphs: the explanation about body composition moves quickly to cell shrinkage and then to disease, without showing how these points relate. The conclusion repeats several ideas from the introduction and body rather than drawing them together. Use clearer cause-and-effect links between supporting points and vary the way you refer back to your central argument.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use a suitable range of topic vocabulary, including “potable water,” “water-borne diseases,” “dysentery,” “cholera,” and “financial status.” These choices show an attempt to use precise and less common language. However, some expressions are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “charge free supply,” “clear water supply,” and “a feasible access”; these reduce precision even though the main meaning remains understandable. There are also spelling errors, including “diseses” and “feasable,” and some repetition of “water” and “basic right.” Aim for accurate collocations and check spelling carefully. Prefer straightforward, natural phrasing over formal-sounding expressions when you are unsure of the word combination.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including a concession structure in “Although the government will get benefit from it…” and a relative clause in “areas that do not have a supply…”. Most ideas remain understandable, but some grammatical errors recur. The opening “Its a basic human right” needs the possessive form “It’s,” and the first sentence joins clauses awkwardly after “hence.” In “Having drinkable water is crucial for a healthy body, our bodies…,” a comma joins two independent clauses; use a full stop or a conjunction. “There are people which do not have access” also has an incorrect relative pronoun and agreement pattern. Review sentence boundaries, articles, and relative clauses to improve accuracy while retaining your range.
