Student answer (Band 5.5)

Access to clean water is a basic need for human. Therefore every household should have a water supply that is provided free of charge. I disagree with this statement because of take for granted and government less focus on other facilities.

One of the major reason for my disagreement that is do not value of water. This is due to the fact that if people give free water facility then they it take for granted because they have no worry for water bill. In addition, they use much water on one thing like bathing and washing car and it is a wastage of water. So, that`s reasons future generation face difficulty to related water and other source. For instance, In Mumbai, people take care of natural sources like water and electricity and they do not waste water because all time they purchase water and use it. They know importance of the water in life.

Another worth considering reason for my disagreement that is authority less concentrate on other amenities. This means that if government spend money on free of charge water supply then they do not focus on other sectors like education and poverty. Because then they have too much burden of access clean water everyone home. Also, there is many sectors where people have no water and food. So, government should focus on these areas help the society. Therefore, it is a negative development for society.

To conclude, even though water is a basic human right, they have numerous demerits like do not value of water and less concentrate on other things.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is clear: you disagree with free household water, and you give two relevant reasons—people may waste water and public spending may be diverted from other services. The Mumbai example also attempts to support your first point. This addresses the task, but some ideas are less fully developed than others. For example, the claim that free water would reduce attention to education and poverty needs a clearer explanation of how funding would be affected, while the example about purchasing water does not fully show that charging everyone is the best solution. You acknowledge that water is a basic right, but could engage more directly with whether a basic supply might still be free while excessive use is charged.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs presenting separate reasons, and a conclusion that restates your position. Sequencing phrases such as “One of the major reason,” “In addition,” and “To conclude” help signal the stages of the argument. However, progression within sentences and between some ideas is not always clear. For instance, “So, that’s reasons future generation face difficulty” does not clearly connect water use to the stated consequence, and “Also, there is many sectors where people have no water and food” shifts from public services to basic needs without explaining the link. Use cohesive devices more precisely and make each paragraph develop one connected line of reasoning.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use relevant topic vocabulary, including “water supply,” “natural sources,” “government,” “education,” and “poverty,” so the main subject is clear. There are also attempts at more formal phrasing, such as “Another worth considering reason” and “negative development.” However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are noticeably inaccurate, sometimes making meaning difficult to follow. Examples include “do not value of water,” “less concentrate,” and “difficulty to related water.” Repetition of “water,” “government,” and “focus” also limits flexibility. Build a bank of accurate topic collocations and check whether each phrase sounds natural in context; for example, express the idea as “people may take water for granted” rather than “they it take for granted.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including a conditional structure in “if people give free water facility then…” and a reason clause beginning “This is due to the fact that…”. These attempts show some range, but control is inconsistent, and errors can make relationships between ideas hard to understand. For example, “One of the major reason for my disagreement that is…” has problems with agreement and sentence construction, while “if government spend money… then they do not focus” has errors in articles, verb agreement, and pronoun reference. There are also issues with plural forms and sentence boundaries. Practise building accurate conditional sentences and checking subject–verb agreement, articles, and complete sentence structure before adding more complex clauses.
