Student answer (Band 5.5)
It is impossible to imagine human life without water. Access to portable water widely regarded as a basic human necessity. Consequently, some people often argued every households should have access cost free clean water because it is a basic human right. In my view, every family have right to get access of clean sources, but it is difficult for the costs of purifying and maintenance.
On one hand, access of clean water crucial for public health. While some part in the Middle East is facing water shortage which is driving to high cost, general citizen cannot afford. Although, portable water supply is difficult without charge, the price should be manageable for everyone. If clean water sources charged very high general public forced to use unhygienic sources which may led to several health problems. At least basic amount of water should be free of cost for maintain public health specially who is facing poverty.
On the other hand shortage of clean water is a major reason for its higher price. The shortage is increasing because of water pollution. For example, Bangladesh had a huge availability of water and clean sources were accessible without charge but recently shortage has made through industrial waste and human activity. Accessing clean water is possible if water pollution will reduce in the future. Furthermore, people are used to waste water which is making a crisis in water availability. Using water without waste may reduce water shortage and make clean water accessible to us.
In conclusion, water is a mandatory human needs so everyone have a right to access clean sources. However, pollution is making it difficult so we need to be more careful and maintain these clean sources for our future.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
Your position is partly clear: you support access to clean water as a right, while recognising the costs of purification and maintenance. You also give relevant reasons, including public health, water pollution and waste, and the Bangladesh example helps make the discussion more concrete. However, the response does not fully resolve the central question of whether every home should receive its supply free of charge. You suggest that at least a basic amount should be free and that prices should be manageable, but do not explain clearly how this differs from providing all household water free. The cost argument is introduced but not developed. State your position precisely and support each main reason with fuller explanation.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The essay has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, two body paragraphs presenting contrasting considerations, and a conclusion. Connectors such as “On one hand,” “On the other hand,” and “In conclusion” help signal the stages of the argument. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes unclear: the first body paragraph moves from regional shortage to affordability and then to a free basic amount without fully explaining the links. Some transitions are also awkward or repetitive, and the conclusion largely repeats the introduction rather than drawing together the argument about free provision and costs. Organise each paragraph around one clear point, then explain its consequence and connect it explicitly to your position.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant topic vocabulary, including “public health,” “water pollution,” “industrial waste,” and “water availability,” which allows you to discuss the issue beyond very basic terms. There are also attempts at more formal phrasing, such as “basic human necessity.” However, noticeable word-choice and collocation problems sometimes make the meaning less natural, for example “portable water” where “potable water” or “clean drinking water” is intended, and “access of clean water” instead of “access to clean water.” Phrases such as “shortage has made through industrial waste” are difficult to interpret. Build accuracy by learning common word partnerships for this topic and checking that each chosen word expresses the intended meaning.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mixture of simple and complex sentences, including clauses beginning with “While,” “Although,” and “because,” and the overall meaning is generally recoverable. However, errors occur across sentence types and sometimes make relationships between ideas unclear. Examples include missing verbs or articles in “Access to portable water widely regarded,” subject–verb agreement in “every family have” and “everyone have,” and faulty clause construction in “If clean water sources charged very high general public forced to use…” The conditional “if water pollution will reduce” also uses an unsuitable verb form. Work on complete sentence structure, agreement, articles, and conditional patterns; then proofread for punctuation and sentence boundaries. More accurate control of these forms would make your argument easier to follow.
