Student answer (Band 6.0)

Pure drinking water is a fundamental human right and everyone should have access to it, without any charges on the supply of it. I strongly agree with the statement and will discuss a few reasons in this essay.

Firstly, clean drinking water plays pivotal role in our daily life. Pure water not only fulfill our needs but also keeps us away from a number of water borne diseases such as, diarrhea, pneumoniea and many other conditions related to contaminated water. Moreover, we should have proper channels of supplying clean water from various natural resoucres like streams and glaciers. Rural regions have these sort of natural facilities and they have laid pipeline system underground straight away from streams to their houses.

Furthermore, there is a little issue of pure water in urban regions because, they are densely populated as well as far from such natural resources. In order to overcome these obstacles, government should take serious notice on this problem. While there are lots of projects in cities for clean water funded by government which make sure that everyone could have ample pure water. For example, underground drilling system, that drain pure water from ground and in addition, every home has their own water-bores at their home.

In conclusion, I have to make my point clear that, it's our basic right and government should provide this natural resource free of cost. It will lead to a healthy and prosperous society, which in turn results in better living standards.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

Your position is clear from the introduction (“I strongly agree”) and conclusion, and you give relevant reasons, including health risks from contaminated water and the role of government provision. However, the response only partly develops the central claim that household water should be free. The discussion of rural pipelines and urban water-bores describes access and infrastructure, but does not explain who should pay or how free provision could be sustained. Some points, such as the claim that urban regions have “a little issue” with pure water, are unclear or insufficiently supported. The response is also three words below the required minimum. Develop the affordability and funding argument, and support it with a specific example.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The essay has a clear overall structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs organised around access and supply, and a concluding restatement of your view. Sequencing words such as “Firstly,” “Furthermore,” and “In conclusion” make the progression easy to follow, and the main ideas are generally grouped appropriately. This meets the lower-band expectation of coherent overall arrangement and shows some movement towards more flexible organisation. However, links between claims are occasionally mechanical, and the second body paragraph shifts from urban water shortages to government projects and household bores without clearly explaining how these examples support free supply. Improve progression by making each paragraph’s main point explicit and using clearer references between the problem, proposed response, and your position.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “water-borne diseases,” “contaminated water,” “natural resources,” and “living standards.” There are also attempts at more formal phrasing, such as “fundamental human right” and “overcome these obstacles.” Some choices, however, are inaccurate or unnatural: “plays pivotal role” needs an article, while “a little issue” does not express the intended idea clearly, and “water-bores” is an awkward term in this context. Spelling errors such as “pneumoniea” and “resoucres” also reduce accuracy. These issues do not prevent the reader from understanding the overall argument, but more precise collocations and careful proofreading would make the vocabulary more effective.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including the contrast in “Pure water not only … but also …” and the conditional-style phrase “In order to overcome these obstacles.” The overall meaning remains understandable, but some errors in agreement, articles, sentence construction, and punctuation are noticeable. For example, “Pure water … fulfill our needs” should use a singular verb, and “plays pivotal role” needs an article. The sentence beginning “For example, underground drilling system” is a fragment, while the comma after “because” is misplaced. Work on producing complete sentences and checking subject–verb agreement and articles; this will improve accuracy while allowing you to retain your attempts at more complex structures.
