Student answer (Band 6.0)

Indeed fresh water is the basic human necessity and fundamental human right, leading to argue that every household should be supplied with water entirely free of charge. While i agree that government must guarantee a basic amount of clean water to ensure human survival and health, i believe that completely free and unlimited water is unsustainable and that consumption beyond essential needs should be mtered and charged. Without water the life is not imagined so there would be a free supply of water for evey home.

Firstly, in some countries there are charges for water. Moreover, the water available is not clean so they have to buy water bottles by paying some cost which is not a good gestures because water is a basic nessesity which should be free of cost. For instance, individuals in China pay the water bill for washing and cleaning while they pay separately for the water that is for drinking purposes. The major portion for their earning goes in it which is not significantly encouraged. So its crucial for everyone to have free of cost for their basic needs.

In contrast, the water when it is available free of cost people waste it alot. They don't used it wisely and waste a greater amount of it. For instance when people brush the teeth they remained the tap open due to which wastege of water occurs. If they have paid for it then they should dont waste it because they have invest money on it.

In conclusion, while access to clean water is a fundamental human right that governments should guarantee as a free basic allowance for survival and health. Charging reasonable fees for consumption that exceeds a basic daily thershold helps prevent waste and encourages conservation.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is clear: you support a free basic allowance but oppose unlimited free use, and this directly answers the question. The conclusion restates this balanced view, while the examples about bottled drinking water and leaving a tap running are relevant. However, the argument is not developed evenly. The point that water bills take a large share of earnings is asserted without explaining who is affected or how this supports your proposal, and the China example needs clearer context. The conservation argument would also be stronger if you explained how charges above a basic allowance could reduce waste while protecting access for poorer households. Develop each main reason with a clearer explanation and specific support to strengthen the response.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable overall structure: an introduction, two contrasting body paragraphs and a conclusion. The contrast between “Firstly” and “In contrast” helps signal the shift from access to conservation, and the final paragraph brings the position together. Some connections are less clear or mechanical, however. The first body paragraph moves from water charges to water quality, bottled water and household earnings without showing precisely how these points relate. The sentence beginning “Without water…” also repeats the introduction rather than advancing the argument. Use topic sentences that state each paragraph’s main claim, then connect examples explicitly to that claim. Clearer referencing and fewer abrupt transitions would make the progression easier to follow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant topic vocabulary, including “fundamental human right,” “basic needs,” “conservation” and “consumption,” and you attempt some less common expressions. However, inaccurate word choice, collocation and spelling reduce precision: “not a good gestures,” “the major portion for their earning,” and “free of cost” are awkward or unclear in context. There are also noticeable spelling errors such as “mtered,” “evey,” “nessesity” and “thershold.” These do not prevent the reader from understanding the main position, but they make the writing less natural and controlled. Build a reliable set of collocations for water access and public policy, and proofread spelling and word forms carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a concession in “While I agree…” and a contrast introduced by “In contrast.” The main ideas are generally understandable, but some grammatical errors affect accuracy. For example, “They don't used it wisely” has an incorrect verb form, and “If they have paid for it then they should dont waste it” combines verb forms incorrectly. Articles and sentence construction also need attention in “Without water the life is not imagined” and the opening sentence, whose “leading to argue” construction is incomplete. The conclusion begins with “while” but does not form a complete sentence. Practise complete clause structures, verb patterns and punctuation, then check each sentence for a clear subject and finite verb.
