Student answer (Band 5.0)

Water is an essential thing for our everyday's life. Without this blessing, we wouldn't be able to clean ourselves or meet our needs everyday. The people wash clothes, crockery, food and even themselves with water. It is an utter blessing. Whereas, there were people who used to survive without water. But it is all in the past.

Nowadays, the government has developed in several way including the free water supply for the people. There are free filters for the thirst of the poor people who can't buy water. A human being couldn't live without water, it is a basic need of the human body.

Secondly, except having the need of drinking water, it plays an important role in many other things as well. For example, it helps people to stay neat and clean. From water, we wash our clothes so that we wouldn't have wear dirty clothes. In order to eat in a clean plate we have to wash it first. Without water we won't be able to wash out crockery. The biggest thing is that we wash our own body with water so that we won't smell. The government must provide extra filters in every area so that nobody would live with thirst just because they couldn't afford purchasing the bottle of water.

The government won't provide a free water supply for every home because it would be their lose. But at least, they can provide free water filter in every area. Few people would say why should the government provide free water filters. It's because they can afford paying for the water and they belong from the elite class. Those who belong to the lower class cannot afford purchasing water bottles everyday. We should be kind enough to provide for those people.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You give a relevant view that water is essential and argue that government support is needed, using examples such as washing clothes and dishes. However, the response only partially addresses the central question: whether every home should receive its water supply free of charge. Your final paragraph says this would be a loss for the government and proposes public filters instead, but the position is not clearly established or consistently explained. The discussion also focuses heavily on cleanliness and bottled water rather than the costs, practicalities, or benefits of supplying household water free. To strengthen the response, state your agreement or disagreement directly in the introduction and develop reasons that specifically support that position, with a relevant example.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has a basic paragraph structure, and the ideas are generally related to water access. The examples about washing clothes, dishes, and the body give the middle paragraph a recognisable focus. However, there is no clear overall progression from the opening to the conclusion: the essay first suggests free water is available, then argues that free supply to every home would be a loss, without explaining how these points fit together. Linking phrases such as “Secondly” and “For example” are used, but they do not always create a logical connection between claims. The opening also moves abruptly from water’s importance to people supposedly surviving without it. Organise the essay around a clear position, with each paragraph advancing one reason and a conclusion that follows from the argument.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use enough basic vocabulary to communicate the general topic, including “basic need,” “free water supply,” and “lower class.” However, the range is limited and several expressions are inaccurate or unnatural, which can make the argument harder to follow. For example, “everyday’s life,” “free filters for the thirst,” and “they belong from the elite class” do not express the intended meanings naturally. Repetition of “water,” “people,” and “government” also limits precision. Aim to learn topic-specific collocations and use them accurately, such as “access to safe drinking water,” “household water supply,” and “low-income households.” More precise vocabulary would help you distinguish between free bottled water, public water points, and piped water supplied to homes.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt some longer sentences and subordinate clauses, for example, “Those who belong to the lower class cannot afford purchasing water bottles everyday.” However, the range is limited, and errors occur frequently in sentence construction, verb forms, agreement, and articles. Examples include “in several way,” “we wouldn't have wear dirty clothes,” and “The government won't provide a free water supply … because it would be their lose.” The opening sentence, “Water is an essential thing for our everyday's life,” also shows problems with article use and sentence phrasing. These errors do not prevent the reader from understanding the main topic, but they sometimes make individual claims unclear. Practise accurate simple sentences first, then build complex sentences with controlled clauses and check verb forms and singular/plural agreement.
