Student answer (Band 6.5)

Clean water is a fundamental human right and necessity. In this regard, every household should have a free of cost water supply. This essay will highlight the given scenario along with my opinion that agrees upto great extent with the statement in upcoming paragraphs with a relevant conclusion.

To commence with, the World Health Organization has recognised access to clean water a basic human right, and most organizations deem it essential. The prime reason for this being that all humans require hydration for survival, irrespective of their social and economic condition. To explain it, every home should be provided with a water supply, free of any charge by the government due to their duties towards civilians. To elaborate it, Providing clean drinking water to poor households, also helps alleviate mental and physical stress of carrying water canisters daily. In many rural areas, Water availibility is scarce, causing individuals and families to face dehydration which can further lead to death. For example, many individuals below the poverty line, do not have the spare income to pay for a water supply, which can cause them harm over time.

However, it may not be necessary to provide water to all homes due to some reasons. The first and foremost is that residents can bring water from local pumps, if they cannot affort the supply. Secondly, families that have access to fresh water bodies, can collect and purify water from there by means of boiling and chlorination. Apart from this, it is difficult to provide water in out of reach areas obstructed by harsh terrain. Nevertheless, i strongly agree that water should be provided free of charge, wherever possible as it is required for a normal well-being.

In conclusion, clean water for drinking and household chores is very important, and should be provided for free by authorities, unless it is impossible.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your position is clear: you agree that water should be free, while allowing for cases where provision is impossible. You address both the human-rights argument and a counterargument, and examples such as poor households lacking money and rural scarcity are relevant. This meets the task well, but the support is uneven: the claim that free water reduces the stress of carrying canisters is introduced without much explanation, while the alternatives of pumps and collecting water from natural sources are listed rather than examined in relation to whether they are safe or practical. To strengthen the response, develop fewer points more fully and explain why access to these alternatives does not remove the need for a reliable public supply.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The essay has a recognisable progression from introduction to supporting reasons, a counterargument, and a conclusion. Paragraphing helps distinguish your main case from the opposing considerations, and signposts such as “However” and “Nevertheless” make the shift in position easy to follow. Some linking is mechanical or repetitive, particularly “To explain it” and “To elaborate it,” and the opening promises to “highlight the given scenario” rather than directly setting out the argument. The relationship between the counterarguments and your final qualification, “wherever possible,” could also be made more explicit. Use fewer formulaic transitions and connect each example directly to the point it supports to make the progression more flexible and precise.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range for the topic, including terms such as “fundamental human right,” “alleviate,” “dehydration,” and “chlorination.” These choices help communicate the central ideas, and meaning remains clear despite some inaccurate or unnatural expressions. For example, “free of cost” and “water availibility” are less accurate forms, while “out of reach areas” and “normal well-being” do not sound natural in this context. There are also spelling errors such as “affort” and “availibility.” Aim for more precise collocations and check spelling carefully; this will make your vocabulary sound more controlled without needing unnecessarily complex words.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including a relative clause in “areas, causing individuals and families to face dehydration” and a conditional clause beginning “if they cannot.” Most sentences communicate the intended meaning, but some grammatical and punctuation errors remain. For example, “has recognised access to clean water a basic human right” needs a construction such as “has recognised access to clean water as a basic human right”; “agrees upto great extent” has an incomplete article pattern; and “i” should be capitalised. Capitalisation is also inconsistent after commas and within sentences, as in “Providing” and “Water.” Review articles, sentence boundaries, and capital letters, while continuing to practise varied complex structures.
