Student answer (Band 5.5)
From the day humans are evolved, water plays a crucial role in our lives, as it is the building block of life. It is often believed that, easy access to clean water is a basic human right, I totally agrees with this, and will provide reasons why it is essential.
From my personal perspective, water is crucial for survival of human beings, because 70 percent of our body is made up of water. Thus, it is building block of life, as nither animals nor plants can live without water. For instance, fruits and vegatables are grown with the help of water, which are essential for our survival.
Furthermore, water should be provided free of charge because it is our basic need. The Goverment should introduce certain policies for poor people who can not buy water. Most of the people in our country have access to dirty water, which can make them sick. Due to intake of dirty water, a huge amount people die each year, and it is increasing at an alarming rate.
Taking these points into consideration, from my personal perspective, I am inclined to believe that government bodies shoulf provide free access to clean and fresh water, and should introdue new policies to protect fresh water from chemicals released from industries. Hence, every individual has right to freash water for there survival, and people should work on protecting available clean and fresh water for our future generation. We should also take care of our environment to maintain a proper rain cycle.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
Your position is clear: you agree that clean water should be freely available, and you give relevant reasons, including its importance for survival and the risks of contaminated water. The example about crops and the point about poorer people add some support. However, the response is 244 words, six words below the 250-word minimum; the nine words copied from the prompt are not counted. More importantly, several claims are asserted rather than explained—for example, the statement that many people die from dirty water is not supported with a specific example or explanation. The final point about protecting water and the rain cycle is relevant but only briefly connected to the argument. Develop these ideas further and explain how free provision could work.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs and a conclusion. Linking expressions such as “Furthermore,” “For instance” and “Taking these points into consideration” help signal relationships between ideas. However, progression within the paragraphs is sometimes loose: the discussion moves from water as essential for life to crops, then to government policies and illness without fully explaining the links. The conclusion also repeats the position and introduces environmental protection without clearly tying it back to the main argument. Some transitions feel formulaic, and references such as “which” in the sentence about fruits and vegetables are not fully clear. Organise each paragraph around one main reason and use linking phrases only where they clarify the connection.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a relevant range of topic vocabulary, including “basic need,” “dirty water,” “policies,” “chemicals” and “environment,” so the main ideas are generally understandable. There are also attempts at more formal phrasing, such as “provided free of charge” and “at an alarming rate.” However, spelling errors are noticeable, including “nither,” “vegatables,” “Goverment,” “shoulf,” “freash” and “there.” Some expressions are imprecise or repetitive: “building block of life” appears twice, and “a huge amount people” is not a natural phrase. Choose more precise collocations and proofread spelling carefully; this would make your argument clearer and more controlled.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, using clauses with “because,” “as” and “which.” This gives the response some structural variety, and the overall meaning can usually be followed. However, errors occur across the response and sometimes make sentences awkward. For example, “From the day humans are evolved” has an incorrect verb construction, while “I totally agrees” has a subject–verb agreement error. The opening sentence also joins ideas with a comma where a full stop or conjunction is needed. Other examples include “70 percent of our body is made up of water” and “every individual has right,” where article or number choices need attention. Practise accurate verb forms, agreement and sentence boundaries, then check articles and plurals during proofreading.
