Student answer (Band 5.5)
It is often argued that water should be free for every households since it is a vitale human right. This essay will discuss why i disagree with this statement, particurly the waste of water and how it becomes a limited source.
One of the main reasons is that many people tend to waste water if they are not paying for it. For example, i know individuals who waste water on public bathrooms or establishments just because they are not charged for it. Therefore, the government should charge households for their water consumption.
Another important reason is that water has become a limited resource that should be saved for future generations. this is mainly because of climate change, unlike other resources can be described as limitless like air and sunlight. For instance, many countries had suffered from droughts and water shortage last summer. As a result, autorities should raise the fine for people who misused this important resource in order to save it for future generations.
In conclusion, water supply for households should not be free, because it is a limited and vitale resource, and by making it free, a big portion of the general populance will act in irresponsible way.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
Your position is clear: you disagree with free household water, and you give two relevant reasons—people may waste what they do not pay for, and water is a limited resource. However, the response addresses the issue only partially because the reasons are asserted more than developed. The example about people wasting water in public bathrooms does not directly show how household charges would change behaviour, and the drought example is broad rather than specific. You also do not consider the opposing point that clean water is a basic right or explain how essential water could remain affordable for poorer households. The response is 199 words, below the required 250, so there is not enough space to develop and support the argument fully.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction states your position, two body paragraphs present separate reasons, and a conclusion restates your view. This makes the overall argument easy to follow. You also use linking expressions such as “For example,” “Therefore,” and “As a result” to show relationships between ideas. However, some connections are mechanical, and the reasoning within paragraphs could progress more clearly. For instance, the move from climate change to describing air and sunlight as limitless is abrupt and does not clearly support the point about water scarcity. The conclusion repeats the main claims rather than drawing them together. Develop each paragraph through a clearer explanation and a directly relevant example, and use referencing to connect ideas more smoothly.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant topic vocabulary, including “water consumption,” “limited resource,” “droughts,” and “future generations,” which helps communicate the central argument. There are also attempts at more formal phrasing, such as “in order to save it.” However, the range is limited and several spelling or word-choice errors reduce accuracy: “vitale,” “particurly,” “autorities,” and “populance” are misspelled, while “limited source” is less natural than “limited resource.” Some expressions are also imprecise, such as “raise the fine” when you appear to mean impose or increase penalties. Build a wider set of accurate collocations for water policy and conservation, and proofread spelling carefully so that your ideas are expressed more precisely.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You use a mixture of simple sentences and some longer structures, including a reason clause with “since” and a purpose clause with “in order to.” Most of the meaning remains understandable, but grammatical control is inconsistent, and attempts at more complex sentences are sometimes faulty. For example, “water should be free for every households” has an agreement error, and “this is mainly because of climate change, unlike other resources can be described…” is an incomplete and confusing comparison. There are also errors with capitalisation and sentence boundaries, such as the lowercase “i” and the missing space after the full stop in the opening. Practise building complex sentences with complete clauses, and check agreement, articles, and punctuation during revision.
