Student answer (Band 6.0)
In recent years, there has been increasing debate about whether water should be supplied to all families without taking any fees. I completely agree that providing water at free of charge is very essential, as water is a fundamental need to the all and people can not survive for a single day without water.
It could be argued that supplying water at free of cost is not an ideal solution, as government need to bear the expenditure of providing water. As a result to compensate this, the price of other services can rise. This means that the expenses of daily life will increase significantly. Moreover, government will face the economic crisis.
However, I would argue that the idea of free water supply is very crucial because there are millions of families who are not able to afford water. So, it is essential for them to get water at free of cost. If they do not get water sufficiently, they will suffer for many diseases. On top of that, there will be created huge negative impact to the children and to the pregnant women. As an evidence, recently a study was conducted by some well known researchers that every year almost 30000 people die in Dhaka city due to the scarcity of water. The people of slums are the victims of it.
Further reason to support this initiative is that to bring equality in the society, supplying water at free of cost is mandatory. As the water is basic necessity for human being, everyone have the right to have water, even though they are not able to pay for it.
In conclusion, I completely agree that supplying water to the every families without charging any fees is very important. This is mainly because all the citizens of a country have the right to get water, and government should be responsible for this.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
Your position is clear from the introduction to the conclusion: you completely agree that water should be provided without charge. You address the opposing view about government expenditure and give relevant reasons in support, including affordability, health, and equality. The Dhaka example also helps make the health argument more concrete. This meets the task well, and the response shows some of the development expected at a stronger level. However, several points remain general or are not fully explained. For example, you mention that other services may become more expensive and that government could face an economic crisis, but do not explain how these outcomes would follow or how they might be avoided. Develop each main reason with clearer explanation and support.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a coherent overall structure: an introduction, a paragraph presenting a counterargument, two paragraphs supporting your position, and a conclusion. Linking phrases such as “However,” “Moreover,” and “In conclusion” make the direction of the argument easy to follow. The main limitation is that cohesion can feel mechanical, with several paragraphs beginning by announcing another reason rather than building a connected line of reasoning. Some references are also unclear, as in “To compensate this,” where the reader must infer what “this” refers to. The health paragraph moves from affordability to disease and then to children, pregnant women, and a statistic without fully connecting those points. Use clearer referencing and transitions that show how each example supports the paragraph’s main claim.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the topic, including “fundamental need,” “expenditure,” “scarcity,” and “equality.” These choices help communicate the central argument, and the meaning is generally clear. You also attempt more formal expressions, but some are inaccurate or unnatural in context, such as “at free of charge,” “at free of cost,” and “huge negative impact.” Repetition of “free of cost” and “water” also limits flexibility. Aim to learn common collocations as complete phrases and choose precise wording: for instance, distinguish between a water shortage and a lack of access to safe water. More natural phrasing and less repetition would make the argument sound more fluent and controlled.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including clauses introduced by “as,” “because,” and “even though.” Most sentences communicate the intended meaning, and the overall argument remains understandable. Some grammatical errors persist, particularly with articles, agreement, and sentence construction. Examples include “the all,” “government need to bear,” “everyone have the right,” and “there will be created huge negative impact.” The sentence beginning “Further reason to support this initiative is that to bring equality” is also awkwardly formed. Review subject–verb agreement, article use, and how to construct clauses after “is that.” Greater control of these patterns, alongside the range you already attempt, would improve accuracy.
