Student answer (Band 6.0)
It is often argued that accessing to clean water is a basic human right. I am in complete agreement with this asseration, and the following essay will outline the primary arguements and supporting this view.
One significant reason for my opinion is that it is survival for humans. This is particularly because human need water for their daily necessities such as drinking, washing and cleaning. Another important factor is that reduces financial burden. Poor families cannot buy expensive pipes for their water supply. For instance, a low-class families cannot afford for pumps and water facilities which are more expensive. This clearly demonstrates that water is essential for human life and to reduce their financial burden.
Another important factor is that equality between people. This is because everyone deserves access to basic necessities regardless of their financial condition. Free water can reduce the gap between rich and poor people and it can ensures that even disadvantaged people can maintain a decent standard of living. For example, people living in low-class income communties can acess safe drinking water without worrying about their ability to pay. In addition, water provides better public health. Free access to clean water encourages people to maintain good hygine and it can reduce the spread of waterbrone diseases, such as cholera and diarrhoea. Consequently, governments may spend less money on treating preventable illnesses.
In conclusion, I strongly agree that every household should receive a clean water free of charge because it is essential for human survival and support poor families. Moreover, it promotes equality and improves public health. Therefore, governements should ensure that everyone has access to clean water, at least to meet two basic needs.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
Your position is clear from the introduction (“I am in complete agreement”) and remains consistent in the conclusion. You address the central issue with relevant reasons: water is necessary for survival, free provision could ease pressure on poorer households, and clean water supports equality and public health. The examples of disadvantaged communities and waterborne illnesses help make these points relevant. This meets the task well, and the response also meets the required length; eight words copied from the task prompt were not counted. To develop the response further, explain the practical basis for claims such as “Poor families cannot buy expensive pipes,” since household water systems are not always purchased by families. A fuller explanation of how governments could provide water free of charge would also strengthen the argument.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The essay has a clear overall structure: an introduction states your view, two body paragraphs present supporting reasons, and the conclusion restates your position. Ideas generally progress from basic need and affordability to equality and health, and examples are placed alongside the points they support. However, some linking is mechanical or repetitive, particularly “Another important factor” and repeated uses of “This is because.” The first body paragraph also moves quickly between survival and financial burden, with limited explanation connecting them. Improve progression by giving each paragraph a clear central focus and using more precise links between claims and examples. For instance, explain how free provision reduces household costs before moving to the example of low-income communities.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant topic vocabulary, including “basic necessities,” “financial burden,” “disadvantaged people,” “standard of living,” and “waterborne diseases.” These choices show an attempt to discuss the issue beyond very basic terms, and the meaning is generally clear. However, several inaccurate word choices, collocations, and spelling errors limit precision: “accessing to clean water,” “low-class income communities,” “a clean water,” and “hygine” are examples. “Expensive pipes” also does not clearly express the intended cost of obtaining a water supply. Aim for natural, accurate phrases such as “access to clean water,” “low-income communities,” and “a supply of clean water.” Proofreading spelling and checking collocations would make your vocabulary more effective.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including clauses introduced by “because,” “which,” and “that,” as in “This is because everyone deserves access to basic necessities regardless of their financial condition.” Most ideas remain understandable, but some grammatical errors recur. Examples include the missing subject in “Another important factor is that reduces financial burden,” the agreement error in “it can ensures,” and article or number problems in “a low-class families” and “a clean water.” The sentence “human need water” also needs subject–verb agreement. Work on complete clause structure, agreement, and articles, then check each sentence for a clear subject and correctly formed verb. Greater accuracy in these areas would make your varied sentence attempts more controlled.
