Student answer (Band 5.5)

Water is a basic needs of human body. Water play important role in human life because it is our body need. I largely agreed that every home should have a water supply that is provided free of charge.

To begin with, water is about 71% of the total earth but main concern that underground water level is decreasing gradually due to excessive usage of fresh water. Fresh water is used for the irrigation, plantations and in industry. Due to this, supply of fresh water to household become deficient. In Pakistan, there are many areas such as Karachi supply of clean water is challenging. Main reason is sea because sea water is salty due to this underground water is not suitable for drinikng. For example, recently Govt. of Sindh have made a plan for purification of water. Because water level is low and Govt. wants to purify sea water into clean water for water supply to every home.

Moreover, clean water usage in daily life is more such as people use if for washing purposes, and in many more way that lead to decline in clean water supply. Natural water that comes from glaciers is important source of clean water. Most of water comes from there. Govt. should have to make possible to store water in form dams, and also manage rainy water and glaciers that become cause of the flood. For instance, if there is a proper management of water then their is no decline in clean and it is availble to every home free of charge.

In conclusion, recently governement has been working on it, and developed a department of WASA which primarily responsibilty to provide clean water supply and also manage sanitation water. If there is good goverence, so it become possible to supply clean water to every home free of charge.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

Your position is stated clearly: you largely agree that household water should be free, and the discussion of access in Karachi and government water-management measures is relevant. However, the response only partly develops the central question of whether the supply should be free of charge. Most of the body focuses on water scarcity, purification, dams and storage, without explaining who should pay, how free provision could be funded, or why charging households would be unfair or harmful. The conclusion repeats the position but does not add support. To strengthen the response, develop two direct reasons for free access and explain each with a specific example; distinguish the right to clean water from the practical costs of supplying it.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The essay has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, two body paragraphs and a conclusion. Sequencing phrases such as “To begin with,” “Moreover” and “In conclusion” help signal the stages of the response. However, progression within the paragraphs is sometimes difficult to follow: the first body paragraph moves from global water coverage to underground water, then to Karachi and a government plan, without clearly linking these points to free household provision. Some connections are also unclear, as in “if there is a proper management of water then their is no decline in clean.” Use topic sentences that directly support your position, and make each example’s relevance explicit. Clearer sentence-to-sentence links and more precise referencing would make the overall argument easier to follow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant topic vocabulary, including “underground water level,” “irrigation,” “purification,” “glaciers” and “sanitation,” which helps communicate the subject. There are also attempts to use more formal expressions such as “primary responsibility.” However, the range is limited in places, and repeated use of “water,” “clean water” and “supply” makes the argument sound repetitive. Several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, including “water is a basic needs,” “water play important role,” and “manage sanitation water”; spelling errors such as “drinikng,” “availble” and “goverement” also reduce precision. Build a wider set of accurate phrases for discussing affordability, public services and water access, and check spelling and collocations during revision.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more extended sentence forms, including a reason clause in “because it is our body need” and conditional structures such as “if there is a proper management of water.” However, attempts at longer sentences are often faulty, and errors occur frequently enough to make some relationships harder to understand. Examples include “Water is a basic needs,” “Water play,” “supply … become deficient,” and “Govt. … have made a plan,” which show problems with agreement, articles and verb forms. Sentence boundaries and punctuation also need attention, particularly in “the flood. For instance” and the run-on construction beginning “Because water level is low.” Practise accurate subject–verb agreement and build complex sentences from shorter, correctly punctuated clauses.
