Student answer (Band 7.0)

Availability of pure water is a fundamental human right and it is stated that water should be provided to every home for free. I strongly agree with the statement because free water supply would not only ensure clean water for the poor population, but also alleviate diseases caused by polluted water.

First of all, providing free clean water to all the houses will be very beneficial to poor people as they will get the opportunity to use clean water for living. Nowadays, clean water supply system for home has become very expensive and the families with lower income can not afford it. Therefore, they tend to use water in their daily lives from polluted sources like canal, pond and old wells which are certainly not reliable for fresh water. Ensuring a free source for clean water from the government will surely end their deprevition of clean water. For example, in the northern part of Dhaka, there is a large slum where the only source of water is a polluted black canal water nearby. However, recently Bangladesh government installed a fresh water tank there and now all the homes of the slum can get pure water from it.

Moreover, providing fresh water will also reduce the epidemic of the diseases caused by poor water. Currently, people all over the town use water from unverified sources which can contain dangerous pathogens. Along with drinking water, those dangerous microorganisms can enter our body via water used for cooking and bathing. Consequently, these pathogens can trigger certain detremental diseases like typhoid and cholera which can ever lead to death. Ensuring free fresh water supply will block the usage of unverified water sources and these diseases will not spread. For example, many European countires provide free fresh water to houses and they almost don't have any record for water based diseases in their hospitals.

In conclusion, free fresh water should be supplied to every home to ensure clean water for the poor popluation which will also reduce water based diseases.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.5

Your position is clear from the introduction: you strongly agree that water should be supplied free, and the conclusion restates this view. Both main reasons are relevant and extended with examples: free provision would help poorer households, while safe water could reduce illnesses such as typhoid and cholera. The Dhaka slum example gives the first point a concrete illustration. This meets the task well, although some claims are broad or insufficiently qualified—for instance, that free supply would “block” use of unsafe sources and that European countries “almost don't have any record” of water-related diseases. Develop the reasoning with more precise evidence and acknowledge practical considerations, such as how governments might fund universal provision, to make the argument more fully convincing.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The essay has a clear, effective structure: an introduction states your view, two body paragraphs each develop a separate reason, and the conclusion summarises the argument. Signposting such as “First of all,” “Moreover,” and “In conclusion” makes the progression easy to follow, and examples are placed where they support the relevant point. This is a coherent response with a logical sequence throughout. To make cohesion more flexible and less dependent on explicit transitions, vary how you connect ideas and use clearer references between sentences. For example, after describing the polluted sources, explain directly how the proposed supply would replace them; this would strengthen the link between the problem and solution. The repeated references to “free fresh water” and “water” could also be varied without making the topic less clear.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.5

You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “fundamental human right,” “polluted sources,” “pathogens,” and “epidemic,” and your meaning remains clear. There are also attempts at more formal phrasing, such as “alleviate diseases.” However, some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, including “end their deprevition,” “reduce the epidemic,” and “water based diseases.” Spelling errors such as “detremental,” “countires,” and “popluation” also limit the accuracy of the vocabulary. Aim for precise, natural combinations rather than more elaborate wording: for example, say “reduce the incidence of waterborne diseases.” Proofreading spelling and checking collocations would help you use your range more confidently and flexibly.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including cause-and-effect structures with “Therefore” and “Consequently,” and relative clauses such as “which can contain dangerous pathogens.” Most sentences communicate the intended meaning, and the paragraphing supports readability. Some grammatical errors remain, however. In “the families with lower income can not afford it,” the article and phrasing need adjustment; “families on lower incomes cannot afford it” is more natural. The sentence “these diseases will not spread” is also too absolute in context, though the main issue is the claim rather than sentence structure. Review articles, countable and uncountable nouns, and sentence punctuation, and check that longer sentences maintain clear grammatical relationships. Greater consistency in these areas would improve accuracy.
