Student answer (Band 5.5)

Yes, I agree. Clean water is one of the initial and important factors of an individual's life. The supply of water should be free from any fee. Because it is a basic right that every individual should have as a resident of a country.

In my opinion, water is a very crucial thing for a human being. Clean water is very important to our health. Because of polluted water can cause dangerous diseases such as cholera and typhoid fever so a clean water is too much crucial for our health. For example, when I was in class 5, I had to face severe typhoid due to polluted and dirty water. There is evidence that due to the lack of clean water in rural areas, a certain percentage of people die from the disease.

Individuals should have a free water supply service. Because there are many rural areas where the household is a farmer or individuals who have barely any income for their own survival. Besides some urban areas, most of the people face issues with paying the fee for water. As residents, individuals pay taxes for everything. Paying bills for water is really unnecessary thing. For example, I have experienced that people in my country have complained about why they have to pay a water bill as they are already paying taxes to the government. It raises a serious issue and is a reason for protest.

In conclusion, every individual should have access to clean water without paying any charge for it. Polluted water affects health and it is becoming one of the reasons for a decrease in population, as people die due to disease. The government should take necessary steps to ensure clean water and take action to free the charges for the supply of water.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is clear from the opening (“Yes, I agree”) and remains consistent: you argue that clean water protects health and that households should not pay for it. The personal example of suffering typhoid and the point about low-income rural households are relevant support, so the response addresses the main question. However, some ideas are less fully developed than others. The claim that water bills are unnecessary because residents already pay taxes needs explanation of how taxes could fund supply, and the reference to protests is not connected to a specific example or outcome. The conclusion repeats your position rather than adding a developed implication. Explain how free provision could be funded and clarify whether you mean a basic quantity or unlimited household use to strengthen the argument.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs with separate reasons, and a conclusion. The progression from health benefits to affordability is generally logical, and examples are placed near the points they support. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical or unclear. Several sentences begin with “Because,” creating fragments and interrupting the flow, while “Besides some urban areas” does not clearly show the relationship between the rural and urban points. Repeated references to “clean water” and “individuals” also make the writing feel repetitive. Use clearer links between claims and evidence, and make pronoun references precise. For example, explain directly how the tax argument supports free household supply, rather than moving quickly from taxes to complaints and protests.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant topic vocabulary, including “polluted water,” “basic right,” “rural areas,” “survival,” and “typhoid fever,” which allows you to communicate the main ideas. There are also attempts at more formal phrasing, such as “ensure clean water” and “take necessary steps.” However, several word choices and collocations are unnatural or imprecise: “initial and important factors,” “too much crucial,” and “a decrease in population” do not express your intended meaning naturally. Repetition of “important,” “crucial,” “individuals,” and “water” limits flexibility. Aim for precise collocations and vary key terms, while keeping the language straightforward. The meaning is generally understandable, but these choices make some claims less clear and polished.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a reason clause (“Because there are many rural areas…”) and a conditional-style explanation of the health risk. Most of your meaning can be followed, but some sentence structures and punctuation need more control. “Because it is a basic right…” and “Because of polluted water can cause…” are incomplete or incorrectly formed clauses; connect each reason to a complete main clause. There are also article and agreement problems in “a clean water” and “the household is a farmer,” and the sentence beginning “Besides some urban areas” is difficult to parse. Practise combining clauses accurately and checking articles, singular/plural forms, and sentence boundaries. More consistently accurate complex sentences would make the argument easier to read.
