Student answer (Band 5.5)

Clean water is a fundamental human right. It has therefore been argued that every household should access to the clean water free of cost. I agree with the notion that supply of the basic amount of safe water should be free of charge. However, i also believe that unlimited supply of the water sould be prohibited to discourage its unecessary usage and reduce burden on the water resources,

There are compelling reasons why the supply of basic quantity of safe water should be available to all without any cost. The main reason is that water is a fundamental need of live. Every living organism need this for survival. it is indispensable for cooking, cleaning and maintaining personal hygiene. Therefore, a reasonable amount of water should be given free of cost to reduce burden on low income families, that are already struggling to meet besic necessities of life. In addition, if not supplied the chances of water borne diseases such as malaria, cholora etc. Government should make policies to improve living standard of people.

Nevertheless, unlimited access of the clean water should be avoided because it will increase the unwanted usage of water. Moreover, as the freshwater has to pass through process like purification through pipelines and distribution, so require public investment to maintain them. Extra charges on the allowance of unlimited amount of water also increase it unecessary usage. For example, people will become more cautious about watering gardens, cleaning vehic

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

Your position is clear: you support free access to a basic amount of safe water while opposing unlimited free use. You give relevant reasons, including household hygiene, the needs of low-income families, and the public cost of purification and distribution. However, some points are only partly explained. The sentence about water-borne diseases is incomplete, and the claim that government policies should improve living standards is not connected clearly to your argument. The example about people being more cautious with gardens and vehicles also stops before it is fully developed. The response is 9 words below the required minimum, and the ending is incomplete, so the discussion does not fully develop the position or its supporting examples.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable overall structure: an introduction states your position, followed by a paragraph supporting a basic free allowance and another explaining why unlimited use should be discouraged. Linking expressions such as “The main reason,” “In addition,” and “Nevertheless” help signal the progression. However, some connections between ideas are unclear: the reference to government policies follows the disease point without explaining the link, and “Moreover” introduces costs without a fully clear relationship to the preceding claim. The final example is cut off, leaving the last paragraph without a complete conclusion. Develop each paragraph to a clear endpoint and use referencing and transitions to show precisely how each reason supports your position.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant topic vocabulary, including “fundamental human right,” “personal hygiene,” “low income families,” “freshwater,” and “purification.” These choices show an adequate range for discussing water access and public resources. However, several word-choice and collocation problems reduce precision, such as “access to the clean water,” “basic quantity,” and “unwanted usage.” Spelling errors are also noticeable, including “sould,” “unecessary,” “besic,” and “cholora.” These do not prevent the reader from understanding your main position, but they make the writing less controlled. Aim for natural combinations such as “access to clean water,” “a basic amount,” and “unnecessary consumption,” and proofread carefully for spelling.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including a contrastive opening with “However” and a reason clause beginning “because.” The main argument is generally understandable, but some grammatical errors affect clarity. For example, “Every living organism need this” has a subject–verb agreement error, while “if not supplied the chances of water borne diseases” is an incomplete sentence with no clear main clause. In “so require public investment,” the clause lacks a clear subject and finite verb. There are also inconsistent capitalisation and punctuation, such as the lowercase “i” and the comma ending the opening paragraph. Build complete clauses and check agreement, sentence boundaries, and punctuation while retaining your attempts at complex structures.
