Access to clean water is a basic human right. Therefore every home should have a water supply that is provided free of charge.

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 5.5)
I completely agree that water supplied in the houses should be free of cost by the government of the respective country. In Pakistan, the summers last longer than winters, and the thirst for water among individuals is relatively more than usual. According to weather forecast, the recorded temperature of the areas of punjab and sindh are between 45-55 degree.
Punjab, a provice of pakistan, is most notable for its agricultre. During the harvesting season, an immense quantity of water is required for the wheat and rice. This can actually reduce the supply of water in homes, even for regular use.
The reason water supply should be free is because of the significant use of water in everyday life. With muslim majority in pakistan, purity is considered a form of prayer in Islam. People such as farmers, factory workers or daily workers had to work under sun 24/7, which results in excessive sweat and odur. In order to cleanse themselves, water is required. Moreover, staying haydrated in the hummid is also good for ones health.
Poor people with minimum wages and big families can hardly afford buying water. It will only increase the numerious deaths and health problems alongside many stress issues as well.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
Your position is clear from the opening: you completely agree that household water should be free. You give relevant reasons, including the needs of farmers and workers in hot weather and the difficulty poor families face in paying for water. However, the response addresses the issue only partially: it does not explain how free provision would work or consider the costs and practical challenges, and several points are asserted rather than developed with specific support. The Pakistan examples could strengthen the argument if you explained their connection to free household supply more fully. The response is also 47 words below the required minimum, so it has limited space to develop its reasons and examples. Extend each main point with explanation and a relevant example.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a basic overall structure: it states a position, presents reasons in separate paragraphs, and uses connectors such as “Moreover” and “In order to.” The ideas are generally relevant and can be followed. However, progression between points is not always clear. The shift from agricultural water use to religious purity, then to workers’ hygiene, happens without explaining how each point supports the central proposal that household water should be free. The final paragraph introduces affordability and health consequences but ends without a developed conclusion. Use clearer topic sentences, connect each example explicitly to your argument, and add a concluding sentence that restates your position. This would make the organisation more coherent and reduce the sense of a list of separate points.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use some topic-relevant vocabulary, including “agricultural,” “harvesting season,” “purity,” and “minimum wages,” which helps communicate the main ideas. The range is adequate for expressing a basic argument, but word choice and spelling errors are noticeable and sometimes make the reader pause. Examples include “provice,” “agricultre,” “odur,” “haydrated,” and “numerious.” Some phrases are also imprecise or unnatural, such as “the thirst for water among individuals” and “stress issues.” Aim for accurate spelling and more natural collocations, and choose precise terms for the effects you mean—for example, specify health risks rather than using a vague phrase. Proofreading and learning common topic collocations would make your argument clearer and more fluent.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You use mostly straightforward sentence patterns and attempt some longer structures, such as “Poor people with minimum wages and big families can hardly afford buying water.” The main meaning is usually understandable, but grammatical control is uneven, and the range of structures is limited. For example, “the recorded temperature … are” has a subject–verb agreement problem, while “People … had to work” shifts into the past despite the general argument being in the present. There are also issues with articles and sentence construction, as in “the summers last longer than winters.” Practise building accurate complex sentences with clauses such as “because” and “which,” and check agreement, tense consistency, and articles during proofreading.
