Student answer (Band 5.0)
It is undoubted that the natural resources such as water is the most essential requirement of the humans. Regarding this context, it is often argued that whether water should be provided free of charge or not. However i disagree with the statement of providing free water. My stance is explained in the following paragraphs.
Water is considered as the most basic necessity for survival and everyone has equal rights on such natural resource. Also many people that providing free water would help solve the issue. However, i disagree with the fact. One most obvious reason for my disagreement is the misuse of resources. If water is provided at free of cost then, people would forget it's importance and start wasting water in an astounding rate. This would ultimately lead to water shortage in the near future .
Moreover the world is facing a huge water crisis. Many countries have no access to water and they pay heavily just to provide water to their fellow citizens. So water

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
Your position is clear: you disagree with free household water, and you identify possible waste and the wider water crisis as relevant concerns. However, the response addresses the task only minimally because the reasons are not fully explained or supported. For example, you say people may waste water if it is free, but do not explain how charging would prevent this or give a specific example. The point about countries paying heavily for water is also unfinished: “So water” leaves the argument incomplete, and it is not clear how this supports your position. The response is 83 words below the required minimum, which contributes to the lack of developed reasoning. Extend each reason and conclude with a direct answer to the question.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
The response has a basic overall shape: an introduction states your position, followed by a paragraph presenting reasons. Linking expressions such as “However” and “Moreover” help signal contrast and addition. Nevertheless, progression is limited because the ideas are not developed into complete, connected arguments. The second paragraph shifts from the right to water to the risk of waste, while the next begins a new point about countries but ends abruptly at “So water.” This prevents the reader from seeing the relationship between the points or how the argument concludes. Use separate, fully developed paragraphs for each main reason, connect each claim to its explanation or example, and add a concluding paragraph that restates your position.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of topic-related vocabulary, including “natural resources,” “basic necessity,” “misuse of resources,” and “water crisis.” These choices make your main subject and concerns understandable, and “astounding rate” shows an attempt to use more expressive language. Some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, however, as in “equal rights on such natural resource,” “provided at free of cost,” and “pay heavily just to provide water.” These do not usually prevent understanding, but they reduce precision and naturalness. Aim for standard collocations such as “the right to access water,” “provided free of charge,” and “spend heavily on supplying water.” Check word forms and phrasing when revising.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including a conditional sentence: “If water is provided … people would forget its importance.” This shows some range, and the main ideas are generally understandable. However, errors in agreement, articles, sentence construction, and punctuation remain noticeable. For example, “water is the most essential requirement” should use a plural verb with “resources,” and “the humans” is not the appropriate article choice here. The sentence beginning “Also many people that providing free water” is grammatically incomplete, making its meaning difficult to follow. Capitalise “I,” avoid the comma after “then,” and complete the final sentence. Practise accurate conditional structures and complete clauses while retaining your attempts at complex sentences.
