Student answer (Band 5.5)

i agree that clean water is human right. every person needs clean water to live. but i do not agree that all water should be free inevery home. on the other hand, water is very important for health , without water people cannot live.they need water drinking, washing and cooking.many poor people in pakistan have noclean water, the get sick because they used dirty water in daiy life.so goverment must help them. goverment should give some clean water all people .this is nacessary.one the one hand.but it all water free there will be problems cleaning water is not free.goverment pays money pipes and machines, if people donot pay government will have no money to fix pipes. also when things aree free, people waste them if water is free people willkeep taps open and many waste of a lot water. this is bad because already less water.

so, i think some water is free and some water should be paid.for example, government can give 30 litres free per person every day . they can used for drinking washing and cooking this is enough for daily.if somene wants more waterfor garden or car he should pay, thid is fairy for all.to conculde, clean water is human right but free water for unlimited use is not good idea. a limited free supply isthe best way.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is clear: you support access to clean water but disagree that unlimited household use should be free. You address both sides and give relevant reasons, including the cost of maintaining pipes and the risk of waste. The example of providing 30 litres per person each day also makes your proposed solution concrete. However, some ideas are less fully developed than others: for instance, you mention illness from dirty water in Pakistan but do not explain how free provision would help address it. The response also does not meet the required minimum length, so there is limited space to extend your reasoning and examples. Develop each main point with a fuller explanation or a specific example.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has an overall progression: it introduces your position, gives reasons for helping people without clean water, explains concerns about making all water free, and ends with a compromise. This makes the main argument understandable. However, the ideas are presented in one continuous block, so paragraphing does not clearly separate these stages. Some linking phrases are also confusing or mechanical, such as “on the other hand” followed by “one the one hand,” and “this is necessary” does not clearly connect to the preceding point. Use separate paragraphs for your position, supporting reasons, counterargument and conclusion. Choose linking expressions that show the exact relationship between ideas, and use pronouns or repeated key terms clearly so readers can follow each point.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use enough basic topic vocabulary to communicate the central argument, including “clean water,” “pipes,” “machines,” “waste,” and “free supply.” The specific proposal of “30 litres free per person every day” also helps make your meaning clear. However, the range is limited and several word choices or spellings make the writing less precise, including “fairy” for “fair,” “daiy,” and “conculde.” Some phrases are also unnatural, such as “people needs water drinking” and “many waste of a lot water.” Build a wider set of accurate expressions for public services and water access, such as “provide a basic allowance,” “maintain infrastructure,” and “excessive consumption.” Check spelling and collocations carefully, especially when revising repeated topic words.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple statements and longer sentences that explain causes and consequences, for example, “if water is free people will keep taps open.” This shows an effort to connect ideas rather than relying only on isolated statements. However, control of sentence structure is uneven, and some errors make the reader pause. Examples include “every person needs clean water to live,” where the article is missing, “the get sick,” and “government pays money pipes and machines,” where the sentence pattern is incomplete. There are also problems with verb forms and agreement, as in “they can used.” Practise accurate basic sentence patterns first, then add subordinate clauses using “because,” “if,” and “so.” Check articles, subject–verb agreement, verb forms and punctuation when editing.
