Student answer (Band 6.0)

There are some specific basic needs for human beings and one of them water is the most valuable thing. Because without water we can't lead a single day and clean water is most probably the major thing to live a healthy life. So, every person and every house should have free access to water and I strongly agree with the statement.

On the one hand, most of the work we do in our daily life highly depends on water. Whether people work in a kitchen, or work in a hospital and in a factory, every sector needs fresh water. In a house, all the household chores cannot be completed without water. In the case of getting clean water in home, the main factor is health complications as doing any work using polluted water makes us ill. For example, lots of diseases occur due to the use of contaminated water, such as dysentery, jaundice etc as most folk don't have access to clean water. As a result, each apartment in any country should be supplied with clean water to reduce the rate of waterborne disease.

On the other hand, children and older people depend more on water. In addition, they are very sensitive to water-borne disease. So, it is obvious to supply free water to any residence. Furthermore, public can invest their money to purchase other things they live on, if they have a free supply of money. To cite an example, if a community in a country has a free supply of water, it can purchase food and medicine.

In conclusion, clean water is one of the basic rights of a human being. So, it is very important to make them privileged through providing fresh water, and I hope that the aforementioned statement supports my point of view.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is clear from the introduction: you strongly agree that homes should receive clean water free of charge, and the conclusion returns to this view. You give relevant reasons, including the role of water in household tasks and the risk of diseases such as dysentery and jaundice. However, the argument is not developed equally throughout. The point about children and older people being more vulnerable is asserted but not explained with a specific example, and the claim that free water lets communities buy food and medicine needs a clearer link to who would fund the supply and why it should be free. Develop each reason with explanation or evidence to make the response more fully supported.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, two body paragraphs presenting reasons, and a conclusion. The progression from water’s everyday importance to health risks is generally easy to follow, and signposts such as “On the one hand,” “On the other hand,” and “In conclusion” help identify the stages. However, the two body paragraphs do not present contrasting sides, so the paired signposting is somewhat mechanical. Some links between ideas are also unclear: the sentence about people investing money in “other things” shifts abruptly from vulnerability to affordability, and “free supply of money” makes the reference confusing. Use topic sentences that state each reason directly, then connect supporting explanations more explicitly.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of topic-related vocabulary, including “contaminated water,” “household chores,” “health complications,” and “water-borne disease.” These choices help communicate the central argument, and the examples of illnesses add useful specificity. There are also some imprecise or unnatural expressions that limit the clarity and flexibility of the vocabulary, such as “the most valuable thing,” “most folk,” and “free supply of money.” “Fresh water” is not always an exact substitute for safe drinking water, and “privileged” does not naturally express access to a basic service. Aim for precise collocations and consistent terms, such as “safe drinking water,” “residents,” and “affordable access,” where appropriate.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including a conditional example (“if a community… has a free supply”) and a relative clause (“diseases… such as dysentery”). Meaning is generally understandable, but some grammatical errors remain. The opening fragment beginning “Because without water…” should be joined to the preceding sentence or rewritten as a complete sentence. There are also issues with articles and prepositions in “in home,” “in a house,” and “supply… to any residence,” as well as agreement in “each apartment… should be supplied” when the intended subject is broader. Review sentence boundaries and article use, and check that each clause has a clear subject and verb.
