Student answer (Band 5.5)

Water is essential for every living organism. People use it for various different parts in their days and we as humans can't live without it.

I think having access to clean water is a basic human right. Biologicaly, we can't survive for long if we don't drink water during the day. As we know, there are places on Earth where people aren't blessed with this resource as much as we are. Not having water is life threating. I believe, that everything that supports and is essential for a person to be alive should be a basic human right.

We also need water for many other parts of our everyday lifes. Imagine after a really long and stressful day, you want to go home, take a hot and relaxing shower, but you don't have water. You might have done some building work and you want to wash your hands before dinner, but again there is no water. Humans don't realise how much they need something until it is gone.

As mentioned, there are countries and even continents where this resorse is missing and people are fighting and strugling with their lives because of that. We are very lucky to have more than enough, so I believe every country should do donations for water, where it is needed and as much as it is needed. By doing that, everyone will have access to water and will be able to live normally. It can also make us more united as a civilisation.

In conclution, having access to clean water without a doubt is a basic human right and we should do everything in our power so everyone can be able to use it.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

Your position is clear: you agree that access to clean water is a basic human right, and you give relevant reasons, including survival and everyday hygiene. The examples of needing a shower or washing hands help make the issue concrete. However, the response only partly addresses the specific proposal that every home should receive its water supply free of charge. Most of your discussion supports access to water generally, while the final paragraph shifts to donations between countries without explaining how free household supply would be funded or managed. Develop this central point and support it with a specific example or explanation to make the argument more complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, paragraphs on survival and daily use, a further paragraph about water scarcity, and a conclusion. This makes the main position easy to follow. Linking phrases such as “As we know,” “As mentioned,” and “In conclusion” signal connections, but some are repetitive or do not create a strong progression between ideas. The paragraph about donations introduces a related but different focus, and the conclusion largely repeats the opening claim rather than drawing the reasons together. Improve the progression by organising the body around distinct reasons and linking each one explicitly to the proposal for free household water.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate your ideas, including “basic human right,” “resource,” “life-threatening,” and “access to water.” The everyday examples also make the language accessible. However, the range is somewhat limited, with repeated use of “water,” “people,” and “need,” and several choices or spellings are inaccurate: “various different parts,” “resorse,” and “strugling.” Some phrases are also imprecise, such as “do donations for water,” which makes the intended policy less clear. Build a wider set of precise terms for water provision and affordability, and check spelling and collocations so your meaning sounds more natural and exact.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You use a mixture of simple sentences and longer structures, including the conditional example “Imagine … you want to go home … but you don't have water” and the clause beginning “By doing that.” Most sentences remain understandable, but some grammatical choices are inaccurate or awkward. For example, “People use it for various different parts in their days” has an unclear structure, and “I believe, that” uses punctuation incorrectly before the clause. The sentence beginning “I believe, that everything…” also needs a more controlled construction. Practise forming clear complex sentences and check punctuation around introductory phrases and clauses; this will make your argument smoother while preserving your accessible style.
