Student answer (Band 6.5)
Although, clean water is a basic human neccessity like food and shelter. I strongly agree that every family should be provided with a free of charge water supply or at an affordable price however, people should definitely pay for excessive usage.
To begin with, providing every household with a basic water supply would protect public health and ensure that essential human needs are met. For example, people need water for cooking, drinking, bathing, and maintaining hygiene. But if low income families are not facilitated with clean water or are burdened with heavy cost which they can not afford, then they will be forced to collect and use contaminated water that will cause waterborne diseases which will eventually spread and cause serious environmental issues alongside raising medical expenses.
On the other hand, making clean water accessible to everyone can also raise serious concerns regarding excessive use and wastage of clean water which is already a major global issue. For instance, if every houehold is provided with free water supply then there can be difference in how people make use of it. Rich people, who use water for more than basic neccessities like gardens and swimming pools create a disproportionality in the whole system affecting unfair allocation of resources. This may also lead to heavy burden on governments.
In conclusion, communities should be supplied clean water but to an extent. There should be affordale charges for an average supply of clean water and it can also be subsidised for poor families. However, residents from privileged class should pay additional charges for the use of water above average limit. This will not put unneccessary burden over governments.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
Your position is clear: you support access to essential water, while arguing that excessive use should be charged. You address both the human-rights and resource-management sides, and the examples about hygiene, contaminated water, and swimming pools are relevant. The explanation that unsafe water can spread disease and increase medical costs gives your first point useful support. However, the response does not fully resolve the tension between the prompt’s proposal of a free supply and your alternative of affordable charges. The concern about government costs is also asserted rather than explained in detail. To strengthen the argument, define what a basic free allocation would cover and explain how charges for higher use would protect both households and public resources.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The essay has a clear overall structure: an introduction states your position, the body paragraphs present the health and conservation arguments, and the conclusion restates your proposed policy. Transitions such as “To begin with,” “On the other hand,” and “In conclusion” make the progression easy to follow. The contrast between basic household needs and luxury uses also helps organise the discussion. At times, however, the linking feels mechanical, and some relationships between ideas are not expressed precisely. For example, the first body paragraph moves from unaffordable water to disease and then to “environmental issues” without clearly explaining that final connection. Use more precise referencing and connect each consequence explicitly to the point being made.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “public health,” “contaminated water,” “waterborne diseases,” “unfair allocation of resources,” and “subsidised.” These choices help communicate the main argument and show attempts to use less common language. Some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or awkward, however, such as “facilitated with clean water,” “create a disproportionality,” and “burden over governments.” There are also spelling errors in words such as “neccessity,” “houehold,” and “affordale.” These do not prevent understanding, but they reduce precision and control. Aim for natural collocations and proofread spelling carefully, especially in repeated topic words.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex structures, including conditional clauses (“if low income families are not…”) and relative clauses (“Rich people, who use water…”). Most ideas remain understandable, but some sentence boundaries and punctuation are not controlled consistently. The opening, “Although, clean water is a basic human neccessity like food and shelter,” is a dependent clause presented as a complete sentence; it should be joined to the following main clause or rewritten. The first sentence also needs clearer punctuation around “however,” and the long sentence beginning “But if low income families…” would be easier to follow if divided. Work on complete sentence structure and punctuation while retaining your range of clauses.
