Student answer (Band 6.5)
In recent years, water has become an essential issue in many societies. While some people argue that water should be free for every houshold because its a basic human right. Others believe consumers should pay for this service I strongly agree with this view that it should be completely free because it neccessary for survival and improves public health.
On the one hand, water is an essential resource in every household. This is because individuals need water to carry out different daily activities such as cooking, drinking and cleaning. Moreover, the presence of water in a home promotes good personal hygiene. People can wash their clothes, bathing room and toilets to prevent the spread of bacterial infection. For example, a family that lives in a house with sufficient water can cook different meals for their home and do the laundry at their preferred time. As a result, they are able to perform all household chores and live a healthy life.
On the other hand, access to free water supply prevents the spread of waterborne disease such as cholera, dysentary and typhoid. Inability to access clean water pose a serious threat to the health of the public. Numerous individuals who constantly consume and use water that are not pure might get infected with infectious diseases which will result in spending excessive amount of money on treatment. Most people will present with symptoms such as body itching or fever when they use water from streams or rivers that has be contaminated with waste products. For example, a building that does not have adequate supply of water, residents might develop health problems due to poor hygiene and sanitation. Consequently, providing household with free access to water supply would not only reduce the risk of infection but minimize healthcare expenses.
In conclusion, I strongly agree that every household should be provided with clean and sufficient water at no cost. Due to the fact that water is essential for daily living, prevention of certain diseases from occuring and enhancing the health of the public. Therefore, the government should make sure every home has unlimited access to water.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
Your position is clear from the introduction and conclusion: you agree that households should receive clean water without charge. You address the main reasons relevant to the prompt, explaining water’s role in daily life and linking access to hygiene and reduced disease. The examples about household chores and illness from contaminated water help extend these points. This is a developed response, although some claims are broad or not fully explained—for instance, the link between free supply and preventing disease would be stronger if you distinguished free access from ensuring that water is clean and reliably delivered. The point about healthcare costs is relevant but could be supported with a more specific explanation or example. More precise development would make the argument more consistently convincing.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The essay has a clear overall structure, with an introduction, two body paragraphs presenting related reasons, and a conclusion that restates your position. The progression from household needs to public health is logical, and signposts such as “On the one hand,” “On the other hand,” and “Consequently” make the relationships between points easy to follow. However, the contrast signposting is slightly mechanical because both body paragraphs support the same position rather than presenting opposing views. Some links between sentences are also less smooth: the example beginning “For example, a building…” is not integrated clearly with the preceding sentence. To strengthen cohesion, use transitions that show addition or cause more precisely, and make references between claims and examples explicit.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “personal hygiene,” “waterborne disease,” “sanitation,” and “healthcare expenses,” which helps communicate the argument clearly. There are also attempts at more specific language, such as “sufficient water” and “infectious diseases.” However, some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or awkward, including “wash their clothes, bathing room and toilets,” “body itching,” and “free water supply.” Spelling errors such as “houshold,” “neccessary,” and “dysentary” also reduce accuracy. These issues do not prevent understanding, but they limit precision. Focus on learning natural word partnerships and checking spelling, especially for key topic terms, so your vocabulary sounds more controlled and appropriate to an academic essay.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and complex structures, including clauses introduced by “because,” “which,” and “when,” and most of your meaning remains understandable. However, some sentence structures are incomplete or faulty. The opening sentence beginning “While some people argue…” is a fragment, and “Due to the fact that water is essential…” in the conclusion is also not a complete sentence. There are also errors in agreement and verb forms, as in “Inability to access clean water pose” and “water that has be contaminated.” Articles and plurals are sometimes missing or inconsistent, for example “providing household with free access.” Work on checking each sentence for a complete main clause, then review subject–verb agreement and verb forms. Greater accuracy in these patterns would make your complex sentences more effective.
