Student answer (Band 5.5)

It is argued that access to purify water is an essential right for every individual, while others believe that every home should need a water supply that is no charge. I completely disagree with this statement because if the water supply was free then economic may suffer a lot of financial crises.

There are a number of reasons why I believe that a free water supply for every person may be a significant issue. Firstly, water is a natural asset. If people use it for no cost than in the future it may finished, and then human suffer a huge water crisis. Also, people waste water for no reasons and they have no idea the benefit of pure water. For example, in Bangladesh people waste clean water for no reason; as a result, nowadays most of the household suffer from a clean water crisis.

In addition, if water provide for no charge, then government should face an economic crisis, like they cannot earn a minimum tax on water supply. At the end of the day, then face a lot of financial problem like they can not earn money, and for these reasons, countries' economies may be destroyed. For instance, in India, the government suffers a huge financial crisis just because they provided free water supply.

In conclusion, access to clean water is basic human right, while every household should have a water supply that is provided free of charge. I strongly disagree with this statement because, in my way of thinking, I believe that the government should add a minimum free to balance the whole problems.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You take a clear position against free household water in the introduction and conclusion, and give two relevant reasons: possible waste and the cost to government. The Bangladesh and India examples also show an attempt to support your claims. However, the response only partially addresses the issue because it does not distinguish access to a basic amount of clean water from unlimited or entirely cost-free use. Several claims are asserted rather than explained, such as saying water may “finished” and that free provision would destroy national economies. The conclusion also introduces a “minimum free” without clarifying whether you mean a fee or a free allowance. Develop the reasoning and make your proposed alternative explicit.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable overall structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs presenting separate reasons, and a conclusion. Sequencing words such as “Firstly,” “In addition,” and “In conclusion” help readers follow the main stages. However, connections within paragraphs are sometimes mechanical or unclear. For example, “At the end of the day, then face a lot of financial problem” does not clearly identify who faces the problem, and the link between water use, scarcity, and the Bangladesh example needs fuller explanation. The conclusion repeats the task wording before restating your view, rather than synthesising the argument. Use clearer references and explain how each example supports its paragraph’s main point.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant topic vocabulary, including “water supply,” “water crisis,” “financial crisis,” and “household,” so the main subject is generally clear. However, the range is limited and several noticeable word-choice, collocation, and word-form errors make parts of the argument awkward or imprecise. Examples include “access to purify water,” “natural asset,” “for no reasons,” and “minimum free.” Repetition of “crisis,” “free,” and “water” also limits flexibility. Aim for more precise phrases such as “access to safe drinking water,” “a scarce resource,” and “charge a modest fee.” Check word forms and collocations when revising, while keeping the vocabulary appropriate to the argument.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and complex sentences, including a conditional structure in “if the water supply was free” and a reason clause beginning “because.” However, the range is limited, and errors occur frequently enough to make some sentences difficult to follow. For example, “If people use it for no cost than in the future it may finished” has problems with conditional form, verb construction, and sentence punctuation; “if water provide for no charge” also lacks a correctly formed passive verb. There are further issues with agreement and sentence construction in “government should face” and “then face a lot of financial problem.” Practise accurate conditional and passive forms, and check that each sentence has a clear subject and correctly formed verb.
