Student answer (Band 6.5)

It is generally believed that pure water supply is a fundamental right of every human. Although, the water sources are limited, I agree with the statement that water supply should be free for every household.

Water is a fundamental component of nature and without it we cannot imagine the existence of life. People use water for various purposes, for example, it is used in drinking, bathing, agricultural production, industrial production and so on. If the water is supplied at home with payment, everyone would suffer the consequences. Especially, people from the lower economic classes, who earns very little in a day and even struggle to buy healthy foods. They work very hard to survive in this era of industrialisation, where the prices of essential commodity is hiking consistently. So, buying water for drink and household uses will impose a great burden on them and they would rather cut some of their budget of nutritious foods to buy water for survival.

If the water is supplied to every home without any cost, it could bring so many advantages in people's life. It will help people to use the water whenever they needed it. For example, if they drink efficient amount of water regularly, it may help them to be more healthier and get out of the risk of fatal diseases such as kidney damage and organ failure. Therefore, they would be more efficient in their workplace and would earn more money contributing to the overall economy.

In conclusion, I reiterate my view that the supply of water should be out of charge to help people maintain their normal life.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your position is clear from the introduction—“I agree”—and remains consistent in the conclusion. You address the human-rights and household-access issue with relevant reasons, especially the burden that water charges could place on lower-income families. The examples about health and productivity also support your view. However, the argument is not developed equally: the health benefits are asserted rather than explained in detail, and the link between free household water and higher earnings is somewhat broad. The prompt invites consideration of whether every home should receive water free of charge, but you do not address practical considerations such as conservation or how a free supply might be funded. Developing these points would make the response more complete and persuasive.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs presenting reasons, and a conclusion that restates your position. Ideas generally progress from water’s importance to affordability and then to possible benefits. Linking expressions such as “For example,” “Therefore,” and “In conclusion” help readers follow the argument. At times, however, connections are mechanical or the reference is unclear. “If the water is supplied to every home without any cost” begins a new point without clearly contrasting it with the affordability argument, while “they” in the health example could refer to people generally or to a narrower group. Use more precise transitions and make the relationship between each claim and its supporting explanation explicit.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “fundamental right,” “lower economic classes,” “essential commodity,” and “overall economy.” These choices help communicate the main ideas, and the meaning remains clear despite some inaccurate or unnatural collocations. For example, “pure water supply” and “water for drink” are not the most natural ways to express the ideas; “clean water supply” and “drinking water” would be more idiomatic. “Efficient amount of water” also does not convey the intended meaning precisely. There is some repetition of “water” and “people,” and a few phrases sound overly general. Aim for accurate collocations and more precise wording rather than simply choosing more formal vocabulary.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including a conditional sentence (“If the water is supplied…”) and a relative clause describing people on low incomes. Most ideas remain understandable, but some grammatical errors recur. In “Although, the water sources are limited,” the introductory conjunction is punctuated incorrectly and the clause is awkwardly attached to the main point. Subject–verb agreement is inaccurate in “people…who earns,” and “the prices…is hiking” also has an agreement problem. Other examples include “whenever they needed it” and “more healthier,” where tense or comparative form needs correction. Review agreement, tense consistency, and comparative structures; these corrections would improve accuracy while preserving your range of sentence patterns.
