Student answer (Band 6.0)

Ability to obtain clean water is a basic human right .So, in every homestead there should be a supply of water which is provided without a fee.In my perspective, water should be availed for free in every home as discussed i this essay.

To begin with, water is essential for cooking and drinking. Everyone at home needs water to be able to prepare all kinds of food and without food people can go hungry and water play a crucial role for the food to be ready for consumption.Additionally, water is essential for drinking in both human beings and livestocks which are kept at home. Human body needs atleast eight glasses of water daily hence , water should be provided for free in every home to ensure everybody gets a chance to drink clean water. For instance , nutritionist in Kenya recommends people to drink atleast two litres of water daily.

Futhermore, acessible to clean water helps people to irrigate their farms and carry out laundry .When water is provided in all homesteads, people are able to water their farms and grow crops like maize which can sustain them. Also, water helps in doing laundry to ensure people wear clean clothes at all times hence maintaining hygiene. Therefore ,water should be a daily thing in all homes. To illustrate this, workers in Kenya are discouraged from washing clothes using rivers since they are polluting them as reported by the daily nation newspaper last month hence advocating for provision of clean water .

In conclusion, clean water is a basic thing since it help people to prepare meals, drink daily, carry out farming activities and enhance laundry. Therefore it should be made available at all times in every home.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your position is clear from the introduction: you support free household water, and the conclusion restates this view. You give relevant reasons, including drinking and cooking, farming, and laundry, and the Kenya-based examples help connect the discussion to real life. This covers the task well overall. However, some points are asserted rather than fully explained. For example, the link between free household water and irrigating farms could be clarified, since household supply and farm irrigation may involve different needs. The newspaper example about river pollution also needs a clearer explanation of how it supports free provision. Develop these connections and address briefly how the service could be funded to make the argument more complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs presenting reasons, and a conclusion. Paragraphs are generally focused, and signposts such as “To begin with,” “Furthermore,” and “In conclusion” make the progression easy to follow. This provides a coherent arrangement. At times, however, linking is mechanical or the relationship between ideas is not fully clear. The second body paragraph moves from farm irrigation to laundry and then to river pollution without explaining the connection between these points. Some sentences also run together, as in the discussion of food preparation and drinking, which weakens the flow. Use clearer sentence boundaries and add linking phrases that show cause, contrast, or example rather than relying mainly on sequence markers.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough vocabulary to discuss the topic, including “basic human right,” “irrigate,” “sustain,” and “maintaining hygiene.” These choices communicate the main ideas, and you attempt some topic-specific language. However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “water should be a daily thing,” “accessible to clean water,” and “water should be availed for free.” There are also noticeable spelling errors, including “Futhermore,” “acessible,” and “atleast,” which reduce the impression of control. Aim for more natural academic phrasing and check spelling carefully. Reusing “water” is understandable, but some variation, such as “a reliable supply” or “this essential resource,” would improve flexibility.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentences, including a reason clause in “since it help people…” and a longer sentence explaining the role of water in food preparation. The overall meaning remains understandable, but errors in agreement, articles, sentence boundaries, and punctuation occur across the response. For example, “water play” should be “water plays,” “Human body needs” needs an article, and “it help people” should be “it helps people.” Several sentences also contain comma splices or missing spaces after punctuation, making them harder to read. Practise checking subject–verb agreement and articles, and divide long sentences into complete units. More accurate control of these patterns, alongside your attempts at complex sentences, would strengthen the writing.
