Student answer (Band 6.5)

It is a fundamental human right for every household to have access to uninterrupted supply of clean water which should be provided free of charge to the consumers. I strongly agree with this position because not everyone can afford to buy water and it is a basic right to have it.

Even though production of water comes at cost, the governement can subsidise these costs and let the low income homesteads have unlimited supply of water.

This can be achieved by charging the higher class a premium or an extra fee to help carter for this extra cost.

For example, in Lesotho, the water utility company is managed by the governent, yet most of the houses in the rural areas are given free clean water. This helps those who cant afford the commodity (water) to have running water daily.

Water should be a basic human right that every state should aim to provide. Although it can be challenge, everyone needs it regardless of the class they belong to. Having clean water in houses will minimise the outbreak of water borne diseases like cholera.

For example, in Zambia, almost every year we get to have an out break of cholera because of citizens not being able to drink clean water. In order to counter the spread of this illness, the government spends millions doing cleanups in markets and buying sanitary goods for use in the hospitals.

In conclusion, water should be free of charge and it should be supplied to everyone especially the under low cost homes at no fee. Furthermore, it remians to be the biggest human right for everyone to have unlimited supply of clean water.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

Your position is clear from the opening—“I strongly agree”—and remains consistent in the conclusion. You address the central issue of free household water and support your view with relevant points about affordability and public health, including examples from Lesotho and Zambia. This gives the response a clear, relevant argument. To make the development more consistently convincing, explain more precisely how charging higher-income households would fund free provision, and clarify whether the proposal is universal or targeted at low-income homes. The health argument is relevant, but the link between free household supply and reducing cholera could be developed further. Overall, the task is addressed and ideas are supported, though some claims remain broad.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs presenting affordability and health arguments, and a conclusion. The ideas generally progress logically, and examples are placed alongside the points they support. Connectors such as “Even though,” “For example,” and “In conclusion” help guide the reader. However, some links feel mechanical, and the relationship between the proposed premium for higher-income households and the later health argument could be signposted more clearly. The conclusion also repeats the opening position rather than drawing the two reasons together. Referencing could be more precise—for instance, clarify what “This” refers to in “This helps those who cant afford…”—to make the progression smoother.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “subsidise,” “premium,” “water utility company,” “outbreak,” and “sanitary goods.” These choices help communicate ideas about public provision and health. There are also some inaccurate or unnatural expressions that limit precision, such as “cater for this extra cost,” “under low cost homes,” and “remains to be the biggest human right.” Spelling errors, including “governement,” “goverent,” “remians,” and “out break,” also reduce accuracy. Aim to use more natural collocations and check spelling carefully; for example, describe households as “low-income” and say that water “is a fundamental human right.” Your meaning remains understandable, but greater control would make the argument more fluent and precise.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including a concession clause in “Even though production of water comes at cost” and a relative clause in “which should be provided free of charge.” Most sentences communicate the intended meaning, but some grammatical errors remain. Examples include the missing article in “an uninterrupted supply” and “at a cost,” the construction “Although it can be challenge,” and the awkward final phrase “it remians to be the biggest human right.” There are also punctuation and sentence-boundary issues, such as placing “This can be achieved…” on a separate line without a clear paragraph break. Review articles and sentence construction, and proofread punctuation to improve accuracy while retaining your complex structures.
